Title: Anyone still getting big sales on Alamy?
Post by: dragonblade on November 21, 2020, 20:57
With peoples latest reports on sales on Alamy, all I'm hearing about is very low prices these days. And I had two sales there recently myself. Both of them were fairly low. Are the big sales becoming an extremely rare occurrence? I admit I'm reluctant to put the work in and submit on a regular basis because sales in general are very rare. And it seems that these days, if you are lucky enough to have a sale, it's likely that it's just going to a few dollars.

There are still big sales, mainly for live News, but sometimes/occasionally for general stock. My own sales tend to be lower value, though.

Define "big sale", bigger than $50/100/1000? I´ve got a $120 last month ($48 net), but my sales are mostly below $20

Just often enough to keep me there.

Their opaque methods of reporting earnings galls me, but, once I sort out what they actually are, it's decent.

This year on A I’ve had Many low $X sales, they comprise the majority of my sales this year. I haven’t had a single $XXX sales this year, whereas last year and previous I’ve had a handful each year
However I’ve also had several $XX sales in between - which honestly in this market is still descent and makes A worthwhile

couple years ago I did have an $XXXX sale - but those are very rare, but it’s always possible and a nice surprise if/when it happens

So all in all, A is still worthwhile for me and certainly a lot less disappointing than having penny sales from the likes of SS - which I’ve deactivated since June

2 months ago I had a 365$ one and it cleared but these are an exception nowadays.

I had 300$ sale in August, and 119$ + 50$ (if you consider that a big sale) in September - gross amounts ofcourse, but mostly under 50$ mark and lots of sales under 10$, especially those distributors sales.

I took a look, and the last big sales at Alamy were in January 2020 - one for $250 and one for $292 (gross). For the rest of the year they've all been under $50 (gross) with a low point of $3.11 in October :(

I had a $190 sale in August, that was refunded on Nov 4, and repurchased for $50 same day. That $50 sale was then refunded on Nov 5, and then repurchased again for $50 also on the 5th. The terms appear to be the same.

My last three were for $9, $62 and $119 gross, all within the past month.  The lowest in the past 3 months was for $3.  About half have been RM exclusive so I got 60%.  Still very sporadic but nice when they come.

Agree with this. My sales trickle in at $5-20 then I get the occasional $100-$200 sales.  The last few months have been fairly good where I have $250-$500 a month before my cut.  AMAZINGLY....I had a video sale there last month for 50 some odd dollars.  I have some of my clips there before they stopped accepting vids.  I think they are doing something to get back into video, but not sure what that is.  But I'd hardly consider one video sale in four years a winning site for that kind of asset.

NO

And NO!

Not like I have different images, and in fact I have uploaded more. Biggest net this year was $10, but I made more from DACS than that. I stay because I've done the work and I make payout, at least once a year. The good sales $200 have gone away.

So, alltogether it seems like the income from Alamy goes down.
At Shitterstock it fall down for the most dramaticly. (If I am not wrong, Adobe went down too, but not that much.) Istock did not change that much. And all the others no big difference, cause also low RPI.

Conclusion: Alamy actually is number 5, sometimes 4 on the TOP TIERS, because others income went down more dramaticly, so that from the whole income Alamy looks better than before, even it is not.

Could I am right with that conclusion?

All I see lately are suspicious low-priced personal usage licenses.

Last three $75, 30 ,12 minus Alamy cut and just 2x $17 just right now

That will be the trend, thanks to the low prices of the microstock. I think so!

In 2020 clearly less XXX sales, but also I do see less X sales since July and a delightful amount of XX sales. XX sales for me are on the increase and overall 2020 is my best year on Alamy.  I add images regularly,  many only on Alamy, and have said goodbye to sites like SS and IS.
I understand the frustration with PU and that's something Alamy should look into. On RM you can disable that, but this feature should be offered for RF also. RF images are normally sold by size anyway and not by use.
Would like to ask those who upload the same photos on SS or DT - why should Alamy pay more?

I got a couple of $150 RF sales a couple of weeks ago, but that's an exception.

no sales for 2 months, this month a $50 & $125

when sales are this infrequent it's difficult to draw any conclusions other than they don't sell mass quantities

I think that covers it. I get a variety of values from Alamy. The sales are unpredictable. There never was a volume of sales, just sporadic, highly varied amounts.

This year for me:

Editorial website = $1.80 commission @60% of $3
to
Magazines and books = $22.83 (affiliate sale for $52)

DACS $10.42 for doing nothing, residual income.
DACS Germany is still to come, but will be about half of that.

Last sale over $100 commission was last year. After SS and Adobe, I make more on Alamy each year,  than all of my other small Microstock sites, added together. Not saying much, but Alamy is #3 for me.  :)

Waht does DACS means?
I googled and found: https://www.dacs.org.uk (https://www.dacs.org.uk)

Waht does DACS means?
I googled and found: https://www.dacs.org.uk (https://www.dacs.org.uk)

I got an error message, I assume temporary?

Waht does DACS means?

Pretty easy, sometimes complicated. You register at that site, you fill out an application, you list every photo and video that has been licensed in the UK, with proof showing your name or artists name, and submit. Or for someone lazy, I let Alamy file for me.

You'll make more if you file yourself.

How do you find your works as licensed in the UK? Here's one way. https://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=bks&hl=en&q=photo+ (https://www.google.co.uk/search?tbm=bks&hl=en&q=photo+)

Add your name after the + sign. That's a UK book search on Google.

You'll see something like this:

Quote
Found inside – Page 32
... 27 wheels, 6, 23, 25 IndyCar, 5–6, 9, 25–27 lap, 14–15, 17–18, 21, 23 PHOTO ACKNOWLEDGMENTS Image credits: Action Sports Photography/Shutterstock.com, p. 4; HodagMedia/ Shutterstock.com, p. 6; Ev. Safronov/Shutterstock.com, p.

Then you'll need to get the ISBN number and add it to your application.

Once an image is added, you don't need to add them again, every year. (If I understand that right) but you must apply every year, by the deadline. At the time I was starting with DACS, they only sent money via bank transfer, which cost me $15 of the amount.

I need to check again and start filing for myself again, with everything that is not from Alamy.

Thanks for asking and the reminder.

Didn´t know yet about it.
Thanks a lot for detailed answer.

Still little bit confused, but tomorrow I will check the links to inform me deeper.
Good night.

Good night.

Hopefully their site will be up and working. There are many more details there and I can't come close to explaining how they actually work. Find your images in use in the UK, document that, register those with DACS.  :)

Thank You

Another walking zombie. Consolidation is accelerating. They were always quite nice to contributors in the past although they did not escape from cutting contributors commissions. There are only a few agencies left where it is worth to contribute from a business point of view.

It's hard to judge any sites this year with Covid, but I've seen an uptick at Alamy this month, with 6 sales all $xx, the highest $85, so not "big" but decent.

It's been about a year since my last $xxx sale there; they used to come more regularly. So, no big sales on Alamy this year, but it's a been a tough year all over.

The latter. It's been there for quite some time.

To my experience RM and RF sell equally well, and I'm placing most of my new work RM.
