Alamy Distribution Commission 30%
Distributor Commission 40%

So for me its 30 % ?

2. Good percentage and a non-exclusive contract:  We offer you a better deal than most other agencies, we split sales down the middle; 50/50

I am confused

Look deeper into your contract and you will see that this was a partner distribution.

As stockwife and your post say, that's a distributor commission.
You can opt out of these if you choose.

You get 50% of the 60% when the distributor takes their 40%. I suppose that's not clear by what happens is a distributor gets 40% of a sale. That leaves 60% which Alamy divided equally with you. That's 50/50 on the Alamy side of the transaction. No all sales are not 50/50 because when someone else gets a cut, we only get 50% of what's left.

Hmmm....but now it is not so easy to actually see the split for each photo sale.......
:(

They have, by far, the worst user interface for presenting data to contributor, but if you click the Account Balance button (from the dashboard) you can see detail on each sale - gross amount and Alamy's commission. Assuming you're on a 50% royalty rate, their commission and your payment are the same dollar amount.

I have complained to Alamy about this before, and they say they're being "transparent".

I suppose they are more honest than some sites, in that they let us know how much they are charging customers, but it's confusing.

On the account balance page pick a date range where you actually had sales, then a list appears with all the details.
Pre-selected time period is one month, so if you had no sales in the last month, you will see nothing.
It's confusing...

The details are there, but I don't see where it tells us whether we got 50% or whether it was a distributor sale (30%) or an associate sale (38.5%). (Some people have mentioned they had associate sales, but that might have beebn (?) before the recent interface change)

My dashboard, download sales report, select date of invoice.    RM   58.57   -29.28   29.29

If that's 50% of the total or minus the 30% I don't know. I'd need to have a sale of that kind to see? But all I see is 50% of something.

Thanks, now I see all the details when I look at account balance not sales. http://www.alamy.com/alamycontributorreports/Reports.aspx?Rep=1

For me it's all there, in the "detail" column...
For each sale two lines in the table, one with "sale" in the description and the detail column, the next with "alamy commission" in the description and "50%" in the detail.
For distributor sales three lines, an additional one detailing the distributor commission.

You are looking in the Account Balance section? For every sale there are either two or three entries. For distributor sales (I had to go back a while to get one of those as I opted out of distributor sales a few years back) there are three entries. Two of the columns are:

Sale                     Sale
Alamy Distribution Commission      30%
Distributor Commission         40% Distributor Commission

So you know that your portion is 30% by virtue of the other two percentages - it's so daft that they make you do the math on your take, but the information is all there to know exactly who got what

Not as bad as in the old days but there are still some people left here who havent found their life yet! and they sort of "stalk" you and some others. You tell em the pacific is an ocean and they will tell you its a desert! part-timers I recon? ya know the score.

Anyway never got on with Alamy I personally know the founder, owner as well and many years back he got me to join but I'm not into that sort editorial lark and thats what they sell to 80% but yeah I can see you content doing well there, especially your people shots!

You find a problem with the truth interfering with your imaginary friends. You had James ask you to join? You and Laurin should get together, both of you seem to know everyone famous and advised all the agencies how to run their business. I wish you both had said, pay the artists more and have strict quality standards. Look what we have now?

Pot. Kettle. Black.  Over 54 K posts on SS alone?  I know you always try to be helpful in your posts and that's over a long time but you might want to get out and enjoy the sun a little more yourself!

He promised to leave after 50,000 I think that was the 4th time he's left there forever and 4 or 5 times here that he left forever. Sad farewell, fans sobbing how wonderful he's been. Where's the new all star band? What about the big new project that's going to take all his time. All about attention.
