Just got my initial 4 rejected for interpolation artifacts. Which I knew was going to happen after the fact when I checked them at 100% after I uploaded them *slaps self*
I'm not sure what the work flow would be to get them to look right like they came straight out of Illustrator but in jpg form. I can't seem to quite get how to make the files 24 mb before saving as a jpg. What I did (which I know is wrong now) was export as a tif file then opened it in Photoshop and saved as a jpg which worked and they uploaded but gave me the jagged edges that I don't have when I'm looking at the file through illustrator. I even tried upsizing really large in PS and placing the AI file and resizing it but those wouldn't upload. I'm not entirely sure what I'm missing in my workflow as my AI files never have gone over 10mb. They also don't have any instructions on how to go about doing that for illustrators just instructions on photography.
If anyone could give me any insights and/or if I need different software to achieve this. I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Anita

What size, in pixels, are your files? They have to be a bit over 8Mpix.
-
I work with mainly an artboard of 792px by 612px which is nowhere near 8mp. If I resized the artboard to 8mp or higher would that keep my edges from being jagged?
-
What I did that worked at Alamy was to copy the artwork from Illustrator into a Photoshop canvas with a minimum width/height of 5000px.
The problem I had with Alamy was that there were very few sales. I ended up pulling my portfolio there and cashing out what little money I had made over 2 years.

Anita, when you create the TIFF (at least this is how I do in AI), you have to specify a dpi that will give you the large file, and check anti-alias to avoid jagged edges.
-
If you save your files in Illustrator as EPS or AI then you open them straight in Photoshop as EPS or AI files.
The dialog box allows you to enter the pixel dimensions of the illustrations.
Any amount should deliver smooth edges without pixelation.
No idea why it would cause pixelated edges when you open the EPS/AI in Photoshop.

@helix7 That seemed to have worked and I got the 4 uploaded again. Hopefully this time they'll pass QC. Thank you.
@madelaide that's the one thing I didn't do when exporting as tif was check the anti-alias box. Next time I try to upload there and have issues with the jpg not wanting to upload I'll be sure to check that box. Thank you.
@click-click I've opened AI files in PS before but never put in anything different in the dimensions. Just checked it and there it is. Thank you.
Wow! Just amazed at all the knowledge you guys have given me. This gives me a whole new way of doing things and every one of them I just didn't know. So I thank you all for helping me I really appreciate it.

Hi!
Are any of your Illustrators making some decent money on Alamy? I have around 300 images there, got some views but didn't sell a thing yet? Just wondering if Alamy was any good for Illustrators?
Thanks for your insight!

@Morphart:
I have sold several illustrations in the $250 range in the last year, quite a few in the $75.00 range but my catalog there is still quite small compared to my photography at other sites - I think it's worth the effort but I believe it will take a catalog of at least 1,000 images to achieve regular monthly payouts (their minimum payout amount is $300.00).
Best regards,
Paul

... (their minimum payout amount is $300.00). ...
Did it change? I thought it was $250 ???

ya me too

Perhaps it is $250.00 - all my checks have been over $300.00 so I may not have noticed. I just keep working and keep my head down :-)

Well it worked. They all passed QC and I got them all keyworded and whatnot which was a bit cumbersome but hopefully I'll do better on it next time I upload. How long does it usually take for them to actually show up in searches and what not? Oh and how does one view their portfolio on Alamy? I couldn't find a link to it. And I don't want to post on that forum it scares me :P

It usually happens overnight, though I think last week it was taking a bit longer (some days, apparently, my pics were 'in' the mornings after I'd keyworded them.)

Thanks I was wondering where I could actually see it at other than in the manage images area. Must take some time to get them actually on there. No rush still trying to learn to navigate that site.

it took my images around 24hrs to show up

Yeah it's not that complicated. They don't update on a continuous basis. At least not from what I've read and not seen from my pictures. Just figure somewhere in the overnight, early morning GB time, someone hit's the big button and everything modified goes live. :D
Same for changes to keywords, ranking or tracking. It doesn't happen until someone updates the servers.
Micro you might change something and go look and it's changed, or in a minute, reload and it's updated. Alamy doesn't run server intensive systems. I don't look in the afternoon, because I see my changes in the morning. Maybe I should do some and see if it's once a day or twice a day. ???

*, now you guys have me questioning my decision to quit Alamy last year. :)
I didn't have my entire portfolio there, but I had a bunch of my best-sellers and I didn't make much of anything with them so I pulled the plug. That was over a year ago. Maybe things are different there now for illustrations?
-
@Diomedes66
Thanks for the input, I will have around 350 illustrations there when I finished processing them. But did you put your Illustrations as RM or RF ? I had all mine in RF as I don't quite understand how RM works. Are those prices for RF sales?
Thank again!
-
@Morphart,
All of my images are at Alamy as RM and are submitted to Alamy exclusively - I have tons of other stuff at RF micros - all of my sales have been to books or magazines around the world.
