I had a situation where it's actually suspicious because I think the buyer did hang it on their wall paying far less than the cost of a print, by getting around the Personal Use restrictions and purchasing a Presentation Use license instead. Here's what happened:

I had two sales on the same day of landscapes taken in the same state park. The first is RF so it was licensed for Personal Use, which makes perfect sense.

The second, however, is RM and specifically not permitted to be sold for Personal Use. It was licensed for Presentation Use at the same $20 price.

No way I can prove that the buyer, being unable to obtain a Personal Use license for the 2nd image, got around the restriction by purchasing a Presentation Use license instead, but the timing is certainly suspicious. I actually sold a print of that same image a week before on FAA so the price difference is particularly galling, but  I doubt Alamy will tell me if both were licensed to the same buyer. Even then, there's no way to prove they hung both images on their wall.

I really hate that the first license that shows up is either for Personal Use or for Presentation Use if your image is restricted. Lazy buyers won't go past clicking on the $20 full image size download. By substituting the Presentation license in place of PU, restricting RM images is basically useless and a lazy buyer could have simply assumed they were getting the same license for both images, i.e. the $20 deal.

I can imagine that one looking nice over a cozy fireplace. Would probably also make a nice greeting card to send to your grandmother for her birthday.

I'll try to contact the buyer to entice him/her to check out some of my more beautiful shots of Lake Como and Cinque Terre instead lol

Just received the following reply from Alamy:

"We have no reason to believe this is being used outside of the terms of the licence. If however you do have proof that it has been, let us know and we can then investigate."

Standard answer, as you know.  ::)
Still, they could hardly go after a buyer without proof of use outwith the licence purchased.
I wonder what use is being made of it, given that PU sales tend to be better earners, at least for me, than many 'regular' sales.

This morning I wrote them my third email about an unreported sale from September.
First contact form sent when I found it on 11th June.
Answer: "We'll ask the customer's account handler to look into this and we'll get back to you."

Second email sent 19th July: "Any word on this yet? I wouldn't have thought it would be difficult to chase up given thatthey have an "account handler".
Alamy's answer: "We've just chased our colleague about this - apologies for the delay. We'll get back to you once we have an update."

This morning's email from me: "Another month has passed, and this image has STILL not been notified or paid for. You need to move much faster. What is your extra 20% doing for us?"

Waiting for the reply.

PS: note that a sale I should have got 50% on will now net me 40% (what they've said to others who have asked).
