Alamy have posted a Blog entry, they have listened to thier photographers, and are looking at a per Image licencing for the Novel scheme, also at reducing the sizes for the type of use.

Excellent.  I guess enough of us opted out to get their attention.

Good move.  However, what does this mean in the recent site mail from Alamy?

We have also considered the feedback and discussion on the file sizes currentlyavailable through 'Limited Use'. We are now looking to provide a maximum filesize which is more relevant to the specific usage.

Maximum filesize?  Do they mean selling the full res image at microstock prices?

Regards,
Adelaide

At the moment I'm remaining opted out of Alamy's 'Novel Use' programme.

It's not because I disagree with it. Anything that brings me in more money is good.

But they don't seem to have thought through the concept well enough yet and they're having to tweak it. There's shades of iStock's famous 'woo-yay!' developments that went a bit haywire. (Anyone remember their keywording fiasco?)

When Alamy have got their act together then I'll decide.

No, I think they mean a smaller size than they are currently offering, as that will be more appropriate.

Got my first $1.00 novel use sale at alamy, profiting me $.50
... that is lower than most microstock sales.

I really wonder if this is going to catch on, or just give people a bad taste in their mouths for microstock.  Microstock works because there are 100's, 1000's of sales.  Alamy's microstock sales are pretty meager, making it simply poor payment for a photo.  Hopefully it picks up.

I opted out of novel use.  I'm on Alamy to make real $$$ not micro cents.  Of course, I have yet to sell anything on Alamy, but I'm patient!  :D
