Title: Making Jpegs larger
Post by: Phadrea on July 05, 2013, 02:42
Because some of my images that have been cropped under qualify for size in the submission process at Alamy,  I am not sure how to proceed to make them bigger. I am using Lightroom 4 and only just getting to grips with it so any help would be appreciated. I am already rendering Raw edits to the highest quality Jpegs but it still isnt good enough.

Thanks.

You can either use Lightroom or Photoshop to do it, and my advice is to increase size in 10% steps for best quality.

Lightroom: when exporting you can choose image size, which should be 8.7mp for Alamy. You can set longest side, or MP or dimensions, etc. Very easy.

Photoshop: use image size and then use the bicubic smoother. Constrain porportions. You can see the uncompressed size which should be above 24m

Don't forget:
When working with 16 bit raw files in PS, you must change modus to 8 bits as a last step, otherwise you can't save them as jpg files.
When doing so the above shown Pixel Dimension will be cut in half!

True about half pixel dimensions, but you don't have to manually change the mode as PS will do it automatically, giving you a message that it will be saved 'as a copy'.

Thanks Ron. It didn't work at first but de-selecting "dont enlarge" did the trick. I have not got PS. LR does me fine. Well impressed with it so far.

Sorry Herg, I noticed that box is ticked in my screenshot, that needs to be unticked indeed. Glad it worked now.

Yes, I love Lightroom, its my lifeline, its the backbone of my workflow. I LOVE Lightroom.

Urgh, no sorry (this may be an issue with Alamy) I am getting "upload failed, cannot connect to Alamy" errors after each uploaded file hanging at 100%  :(

They all upload 100% but then take ages to process for the same error message. Thanks for testing though.

Used to happen a lot. Try again later.
