Title: Payment Threshold
Post by: dpimborough on November 23, 2016, 06:34
Nice email received today and nice to see it's genuinely "exciting" news they dropped the payout threshld from $75 to $50 :)

Good to see an agency still thinks of their contributors

"We'd like to pay you more frequently so we're changing the minimum payment threshold from $75 to $50. You don't need to do anything, the changes

will take effect from the next pay run. "

Just wish Dreamstime would do that too  :(

The payout threshold has never bothered me but its another nice gesture.  I upload a lot of images exclusively to Alamy, even though they don't pay more for exclusive images.  It just feels right to help a site that is so contributor friendly as much as possible.  If everyone got behind Alamy and the few other sites that pay us 50% and did something positive to help them, I think we would be much better off than spending all out time complaining about sites that don't deserve our images.  Not that I don't enjoy complaining about sites that treat us appallingly, venting is good but doing something positive is better.

Nice move by Alamy, thanks. Dreamstime, Istock are the last remnants.

It's a nice gesture, but I wonder if it means that there are a lot more people who cant even make payout.  ???

I have had the same reaction.
For me this means that less people can reach the payout, and it is not a good sign from my point of view

Or they are going to lower commissions, making it even harder to make payout. ;)

I did not get any e-mail from Alamy about payment threshold changing (and I did check my spam folder), so I went to look on the site to see what I could find.

The legal stuff hasn't changed (http://www.alamy.com/terms/contributor.asp#Statements-and-Payment) (still $75) but it mentions "...or such lower amount as is published on the Alamy website from time to time". Where would this lower amount appear on the web site? I figured my contributor dashboard would be a good place to find any notice I'd missed, but I can't see anything.

I can see a notice of a new blog post that they're about to roll out the new image manager - 50 tags max (no deletions for existing images), only one group of keywords, but you can designate 10 supertags (not sure how). You can enter multi-word keywords (not sure what that means for existing images where they broke up multi-word entries on upload, but I'm guessing we'll have to fix manually).

And editorial comes to RF images!!

Roll out beginning this week, but apparently it's not happening for everyone at the same time.

Well, the average net sale for me in 2008 was $109 and this year it has dropped to $14, so yes, it's becoming more difficult to receive a payout every month. Over 60% of my sales are under $10, and I license a good number of images per month on average.

In fact the net sale last year was $24 so I'm seeing an almost 50% drop in the average sale value in one year.

I wish we could choose the level at which we get payout......
Diddling around with the accountant and taxman for every 50$ is a right royal pain and costs money...
