Title: Question for Mirco
Post by: Pablito on August 11, 2016, 05:23
Hi Mirco,

I remember you talking a while back about Alamy starting an RF editorial section and Alamy in fact announced it was going to happen later this year, here on MSG.

Well, they have just announced changes and an editorial classification. Do you take this as it's now possible to send RF to Alamy as editorial without MR or PR.

Have they? Do you have link or further info?

Nothing has changed yet.  I just submitted a few photos and when you select that it has people or a property with no release, it automatically goes to rights managed.

I can't wait to see that happen but for now:

We’re working on a major change to the way in which we deal with restrictions. We hope this will be live during August.

They are simplifying restrictions, though it seams like another complication.

So it looks as though there's no change.

There is a blog of Alamy about changes to restrictions. Its from a few weeks ago. In that blog they mention that the new contributor tools are coming somewhere in september. So i guess till then for sure no changes.

September is almost over and no news from Alamy.

They take their time.  It took a long time for them to accept video after telling us about it and that was a big anticlimax, as they went a different way to their stills strategy of letting everyone submit.

Thanks Mirco,

I've just re-read the Alamy restrictions blog post and can't see any reference to "new contributor tools are coming somewhere in september".
Mind you, my wife tells me I can never find anything.

Slightly out of topic.
Are all of you submitting just still image at Alamy, or there is actually anyone there submitting video?
Any video sales there?

I heard someone with an East Sussex type name on another thread, a short while ago, state emphatically - that video has 100% had it (as in: had it's chips) - think the term was "race to the bottom"
Personally I don't believe a word of it.

Not so long ago (a week or so), there was a comment from Alamy regarding the changes, not very informative though: http://www.microstockgroup.com/27342/27342/msg463805/#msg463805 (http://www.microstockgroup.com/27342/27342/msg463805/#msg463805)

You are welcome Pablito. It was mentioned in some thread that the new tool will be able to read metadata too, so it would be nice to see it in action.
