Images are available for sale for 180 days after theyve been deleted. Theyre only searchable for the first half of that (90 days). After that they wont be visible but theyll be available to customers whove already downloaded them.

(information I have requested this morning and got this reply 26 minutes after)

Delete all keywords before requesting a deletion of the image and they become instantly unsearchable.

Heck, technically you could do that anywhere. A lot of work though.

In Alamy, can't you do it in a batch in Manage Images? (I've never had to do it, but I 'imagine' you can.)

That's good advice. It would definitely work. 96 images at a time is the maximum number you can have showing at one time. Then select all and drag them to the batch. Do the edit (don't forget all of the different fields which are potentially searchable - as ShadySue has previously noted here that includes not only the keyword fields but also titles and descriptions. And don't forget to blank the location data too.

I think they would still be searchable by date however. And they will be discoverable via Google etc. The images will still be on sale - and the edit will not affect images which are available via distribution partners. The 180 day rule thing is all there in the contract btw.

Personally I like Alamy but only use them for RM editorial stuff which would be unlikely to ever sell at iStock and for which I would already have relatively low expectations.

If a client has a photo in their lightbox, you could end up licensing it long after it's been removed, but removing the keywords is good advice - also, putting in restrictions "Worldwide - All" makes a subsequent sale less likely to come from a new buyer.

Once the image is marked for deletion, you can't go in and change anything, so be sure to do all this before you mark them to be deleted.
