Hi Everyone,

maybe someone here is kind enough to help me. When i look at my balance of account at alamy, i am super confused.
I attached a screenshot. How much do i actually have in my account?

I understand that o means that the money was cleared and when it is x i still need to wait. About how long does it take to get cleared?

What it the difference between Alamy Distribution Commission and Distribution Commission. Why is one 30% and the other 40%?. Why do i get a debit twice?

Do i once pay commission to the third party agency and then again to alamy? That's how i understand it.
But shouldn't the commission that ALAMY then gets be calculated from the amount with the other commission already reduced? Since it seems they calculate their amount from the full sale price? Hope that was kind of understandable.

If i understand it correctly i now have 61.87 in my account. Is it normal that alamy sells more over distributors.

I know, a lot of questions. But i feel like ALAMY does it really confusing.

Thank you already in advance.

kind regards,

Daniel

Hi Dan,

Yes, you have 61.87 but the most important part is the 'Cleared' Balance!  The Cleared is yours and you don't have to worry about a refund.  I seem to be one of the few that gets a lot of refunds- I had over $300 just a few months ago and it all was returned.

Hope this helps and may the 'Force' be with you...

Distributors get paid 40% of the customer price and you and Alamy split the rest 50/50 - 30% of the gross for each of you.

Alamy can take months for balances to "clear" meaning that Alamy has been paid by the customer and thus pays you. They let their customers buy on credit and although they say it can be up to 45 days to clear, some people have seen much longer periods.

I opted out of distribution sales as I was not happy that some entity that did no work at all - the distributor - got paid more than I did. In this day and age anyone could buy from Alamy direct - it's a world wide website - so these schemes to siphon of money for all and sundry before paying the person who created the work seem antique.

You get paid at the beginning of each month if your cleared balance is over the threshold. I have never found Alamy's statements for contributors to be clear or helpful, but then as sales have become fewer and fewer, I don't much care :)

Why not?
I had a refund months after it had been paid,  cleared and I'd been paid (it was paid out of the balance I had at the time of the refund). It was a 50% refund to a 'valued client', but I had to write to Support to find out.

Thanks for the quick answer!! It actually really is depressing.

Thank you Jo Ann.

Now i understand it. It is really crazy that the distributor (who doesn't really needs to do anything) gets more than either ALAMY and myself. I think i will also opt out...

Exact.
I wrote them last week and they answered me:
"The time it takes for a sale to clear depends on the type of customer and if theyve got a particular deal with us. With the majority of customers it can be from 45 days up to three months"

Incredibly difficult to upload and keyword, the most confusing interface I have encountered, refunds that I cannot fathom. They do not make dealing with them easy! I have some photos there and have made a small amount of money and would likely upload more ... if they just made the process easier.

Tell them the old, old story.  :(

Alamy seems to be frozen in time.  Don't look for anything to change - only for prices to sink lower, and refunds to become more common.
