Sorry if this question should be in the newbie section, but why do people buy images from Alamy. I mean the prices are a lot higher than in microstock, right? What extra do they get out of buying from Alamy?

RM is an option. But there are a lot of RF pictures as well at Alamy, and the price is generally higher as well.
I guess - or at least hope - that people are buying there because they can find what they want, since Alamy doesn't reject pictures for LCV (the most meaningless reason, 'cause nobody knows what will sell)

No. I assume that OP was asking why someone would be bothered to buy RF from Alamy when the same images could be found on microstock, as there are lots of photographers with the same portfolio on SS and on Alamy for instance.
The reality is that buying RF from Alamy will ensure you the most permissive usage for the image among all agencies. Basically everything is an EL, even more than that. Unlimited use and such. Another thing is that each agency has its own customers who are in many cases (not all but enough) not scouting the internet for lower prices on images. Also they have special discounts on some products - and all the other marketing stuff that they do to attract clients.

There's no exclusivity included when buying a standard RM license

There are many niche images at Alamy, and also images that would get rejected at microstock sites just because they don't like the subject matter or certain technical aspects like noise. They also understand what is an editorial image (most of the microstock sites doesn't have a clue, they are only interested in "news" images which is very, very, very STUPID!)
Because the images are generally more expensive, they also can provide better service and search assistance.

Good question. I'm amazed that people buy my RF images at Alamy when they could get them as subs at other sites. I've had images sell for over 400$ which is expensive even for an EL.

How does payment work at Alamy with RF?
With RM, there is often a long 'credit' period, sometimes extending for months, and that could suit the cashflow/accounting pattern thus be attractive to some companies.

Good question. I'm amazed that people buy my RF images at Alamy when they could get them as subs at other sites. I've had images sell for over 400$ which is expensive even for an EL.
If that same image was licensed in IS, for example, the buyer would have to buy all EL's available and would cost more than the $400 of alamy.
And even so, all those licenses would not grant all the rights that the RF in alamy does.
Alamy RF is the true RF. Micro RF is a modern version where limitations have been included in the use.

It doesn't matter if it's RM or RF, it can take many, many months for a sale to clear.
