Thanks for the invite.

I'd just like to say that I'm not sure if all these new sites is all that great and I personally will not be submitting to more sites.  I find it a waste of time to submit in hopes of success.  The only new site I'm looking to get into is Corbis - and thats even a question mark because I don't know their terms - but you know that they will try and make a good splash.

The site looks ok, but i am not sure there is a point of submitting to more sites when i have a hard enough time keeping up with the ones I allready submit to.  I guess it might be a good place for newcomers to get lots of images on.. but will they get sales??

yeah, i keep forgetting about that corbis site?  when on earth is it going to come?

I received an invite as well - they offered to pay me $250 if I uploaded 1000 images (to be a member of their "elite 100 club"). I briefly checked it out - looks to me to be far too early to make it worth my time to join: apart from a few of anomalies, their top selling images have been DLed only once!

... still, I'm tempted by the $250. I'm suspicious that they'll become inordinately picky about accepting images once people near the 1000 mark, so I'll pass on this for now.

Here's the link for those curious about it.

amen to that.... in fact, I'm seriously thinking of bailing out of two more that give me low sales....  It's a ton of work.  8) -tom

I understand it this way: you upload a 1000 images and then you are in the club. After that for every image you upload you get 10 cents. In this way cou can earn max $250. But that also means you have to upload 2500 images in addition to the 1000, equals 3500 images.

Well thats a step in the right direction for an agency to start, but for me the deal is not good enaugh yet..

Where are all of these new sites coming from?  It reminds me of the influx of new sites a couple of years ago, most of which no longer exist.

No more for me.  At this point, they either have to stand out from the pack in some new, innovative way, or have some kind of a proven track record before I bite.

LuckyO is the last new site to catch my attention right away, and it was due to three things: 1) Bryan's track record and experience with start-up companies, 2) a fresh site that doesn't appear to be just the same ol' regurgitated photo site, and 3) providing ways to meet and educate their contributors.

I like to join new sites, I give them a year and if they haven't taken off I am gone. So I joined Albumo today, my short experience so far: US based site, registration is easy, they don't ask for copies of documents etc, choice of three upload methods: web-based (5 images), java (max 150mb) and ftp (max 1GB), min requirement 800px and a max limit per image of 150mb (brilliant for some of my fractals), approval time was around 6h (love it!) and my approval ratio so far is 100% (love it even more!). They pay for uploading: 250-999 images uploaded $25 and then for each image 10cents. No categories (there are optional ones, but I ignored them), java and ftp work smoothly and fast and it reads meta data. From upload queue you have the possibility to batch edited things if you want and push all images at once into the approval queue, pretty straightforward and easy. So, tonight I will set Filezilla to work and upload my whole portfolio  ;D Here the link to my Portfolio SY

Here is a quote from the agreement (@ http://albumo.com/licensing):

"Member also forfeits the right to remove submitted and approved for sale Content for 400 days since the date of initial upload."

As far as I know, that is the longest that any site requires content to be online (before deletion).

Fotolia requiered one year=364 days as they paid for submitted images.  :D I think it is only just. SY

I just signed up and started uploading.  I have to be honest - this is one of the BEST categorizing and keyword suggestion systems I have EVER seen.  I'm impressed.

Things that called my attention in the agreement:

By uploading content, intended for sale, such as images, photographs, illustrations files, Member agreement to give Albumo.com and all members of Website, through the direct use of Website, perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Content for any purpose including publication, displaying, modification, and creation of derivative works. (Other members can use my images for free???)

By uploading photographs, illustrations, video files, animations, data files, and other material (Content) to Albumo.com, Member gives Albumo.com, a perpetual, world-wide, non-exclusive privilege and license to use, reproduce, publish, market, sublicense and sell to third parties any Content uploaded or moved by Member to the sale folder in accordance with our Content Upload Rules and accepted by Albumo.com.
although I see elsewhere that we can remove them:
Albumo.com has the right to license Content, which is intended for sale, up until the time Member removes such Content from the Website.

Uploading of the Content found on other stock photography sites also results in the termination of this Agreement and your membership." (but I didn't see any point that it refers to exclusives only, as it seems the case, as next they speak of non-exclusives)

Regards,
Adelaide

Adelaide - check the TOS for BigStock.  It has been a while since I read it but if I remember correctly, the language is virtually the same.  Essentially, they want to be able to use your images to advertise their site (just like any other stock agency).  The perpetual use I believe covers them in case 3 years after you remove your images, an ad is found cached on the internet somewhere based on what a web crawler saw before you pulled your images.

What is so good about it?  From what I here they are accepting everything (good to reach the 1000, but bad from a designers perspective).

What makes a site good is sales.  What makes you think this will be better than any other new site that doesn't find its feet. (I understand it is too early for them to be having sales but what sets them apart etc - ie. I support LO as it has a quirkyness that the other sites dont).

I think what makes them good is there upload system, it is even better than StockXpert I think. And they invest that means they are serious about selling images.

Yeah, they are doing a couple of things right. One, they had a fully functional operational site up before releasing it, and they are spending money now to get the images, which implies a commitment.

Of the 3 new sites I have seen in the last few weeks, this appears to be the best.

But you're right - no sales, no business

It looks good. For 251 uploaded images you get 25$, it's better then my 7 months on Featurepics, LO and Canstock  ;D

This was my question too. Jon from Albumo send me this :
"● Why is there different price availability for various images?
To best serve to our customer needs and to keep low prices, our images are offered in different sizes for a different price.  Image ranking system also allows us to reward our artists and to encourage the creators of stock photography to upload only best images.  Here is a brief example of our image ranking system.

If image was purchased (downloaded) less then 5 times its only available in its Original size for 1 credit.  If it was purchased more then 5 times but less then 15 its being offered in two sizes Large and Original for 1 and 2 credits respectively, and so on.  Please keep in mind that all our images can be purchased for as low as 1 credit (or 85 cents).  "

 902x600 pixels
(12.5x8.3 " @ 72 dpi) 1 credit(s)
 1805x1200 pixels
(6x4 " @ 300 dpi) 2 credit(s)
 3610x2400 pixels
(12x8 " @ 300 dpi) 3 credit(s)
 4309x2865 pixels
(14.4x9.6 " @ 300 dpi) 4 credit(s)

Andres, if you lost a link to Albumo feel free to use this one  ;D
