A few people have suggested I start uploading to Albumo and I see a lot of the photographers I really respect already have 1000 images online.

After checking out the uploading process and finding the ftp very good, I checked out the T&C (I know, wrong order!) to find that they sell full-size images for $1. How does everyone feel about this? I prefer to see my large images go for more than that - although of course I do put up with in with the subscription sites.

So is Albumo really worth the effort??

Ok, so just read the quick guide and I see there's more to it than that, depending on number of downloads and usage. Guess I have to be reassured that if lots of you are uploading then it's wise to do so too :)

I think they are worth the effort, plus they pay 60% which is alot more than many of the other sites.  I recieved my first Paypal payment a couple days ago...$77.00  (only two sales so far....but hey...only been a month)

They are putting money where thier mouth is.....I'm sure it will take them some time to take off....but since they are willing to put out some money up front....I'm willing to upload everything I have to them.

I'm not too hip on any of the other new sites....most want to pay us 30%....I have enough of those sites already. I........we...deserve more for our photos and I for one plan to support fully the sites that are willing to pay us what we deserve.

I also received my first payment this month.  Nearly caught up with my earnings from Lucky Oliver and I haven't sold anything yet.

Their prices are low to start off with for full size images but this should attract buyers.  I think fotolia has kept going because they have low prices.  The average price earned per download with albumo should be in line with FT and BS and the more a photo sells, the more you earn.

Over 190K files on the site. Be interested to see what they have in mind for marketing.

Me?  I'm not happy about the pricing structure at all.  The idea of selling my largest size photos for $1 for any length of time, or not providing the buyer with multiple size choices right from the start, doesn't sit well with me.  It doesn't make sense to not offer the four different sizes from the very beginning.  What is the purpose of that?  Unfortunately I didn't discover that until after uploading a ton of photos, so as soon as I reach the minimum payout, I'm pulling my portfolio.  I will not support a site that doesn't support me right from the start.

I'm also really leery of any site that doesn't provide good contact information.  Albumo only provides a post office box.  No phone number, no street address, nothing.  The PO Box is located about five miles from where I live...that's all I know.

Cool. Get yourself a dark raincoat, sunglasses, and a magnifying glass. Post yourself next to that mailbox on a morning as inconspicuously as you can (would not be difficult with a black raincoat in sunny California). Then follow the guy that empties the box from a safe distance, let's say 50cm.

Surprise! - he walks right into the LuckyOliver building  ;D

If you took the introductory offer, Karimala, aren't you now stuck with them for 400 days...?

I must say that I am not tempted at all by any of these new agencies.  I simply cannot see how on earth they are going to be able to generate the sales traffic.  Why would a client sign up for Albumo (who have 200,000 images) when they can join another agency with 2 million images?  I'd rather spend my time trying to refine and improve my portfolios at IS, SS, StockXpert etc.

Of the 'smaller' agencies I see StockXpert and 123RF as being an opportunity.  I suspect this is because they are part of larger organisations.

After my forst year in microstock I will 'cull' the worst performer of the six agencies I submit to; at the moment BigStock is the clear front runner for the cull........ Not that they offer bad service or anything, simply that they cannot generate the sales traffic I obtain elsewhere.

I would agree with that if there were time involved. I was thinking about this same thing in reference to another thread about LO. the upload for these two sites are about the same. 5 mouse clicks for LO and 8 clicks at Albumo for my daily batch. Two clicks in my FTP client which already has my batch loaded from the other sites, then the rest to actually upload to the site. The work is already done. The same pictures I uploaded to the 'paying' sites are ready for the up and comers I think have potential. So I spend a few seconds a day on them.

I certainly wouldn't join any new site with the tedium of uploading as a Fotolia or IStock.

The prices at albumo will attract buyers and they will have special offers.  They have money to spend, some of it is already in my bank account:)

How did fotolia keep going when the search engine was useless or when the site was the slowest of them all?  They have cheaper prices than most of the other sites.  I think that is the reason why they have survived the mess of the switch to v2.

New sites can do well and make us money.  Stockxpert hasn't been around long and I had lots of downloads there when they had around 200,000 images in the collection.  Hopefuly, they can continue to build and take over from istock.  I prefer a site that has good upload limts an easy upload and pays 50%.  They are so much better than the biggest site that only pays 20% to non-exclusives has a horrible upload limit and makes the upload process very tedious.

If we don't support a new site every now and then, we will be stuck with the sites that offer us a poor deal and they will be able to squeeze more money out of us.  I hope albumo will be a good rival for fotolia and force them to sort out their problems.

I accept your arguments completely sharpshot.  Perhaps I should have qualified my comments by saying that those are my opinions based only on my own experiences in my first few months of microstock.

Many others, including you, have been around for much longer.

I like reading your opinions hatman and I only started uploading to sites July last year, so I am not an a veteran at this.

It is probably sensible to just stick to the established sites that have a lot of sales.  While stockxpert was a risk worth taking, I am starting to wonder if uploading to Lucky Oliver was worthwhile and there are some sites that I am pleased to have avoided.  Albumo is a risk but I haven't seen a site grow from nothing as quickly as they have and they are spending money, so I am willing to give them a go.

OK, Albumo, there are over 214K images on the site now. Let's hear about this marketing campaign.

Just put "" or %60%60 in the search field and hit enter, then it shows 7156 pages with 30 images each 7156*30=214k, more or less... And you can even sort by most downloaded first  ;D SY

Using "hospitalera's system", it seems that Albumo have sold only 792 photos...
Sort by most downloaded and go ahead to page 23:
51+51=102 First 2 photos
102+51= 153 first page
30*21=603
9 last page
Total = 792

Eh I wouldn't count the images with 51 sales as real sales *lol* I am pretty sure that are "leftovers" from testing the system, but still around 680 sales is pretty good for a site that is only a few months on line imho, SY

Can you point me towards the introductory offer?  I can't seem to locate it.

I didn't catch that either - it's not in the TOS, but in the CUA (Customer Upload Agreement)

Don't have a problem - I usually leave an image for a year on a new site to give a fair shake, and since they paid for the uploads, they've earned the right to get their money back.

I contacted Albumo about this earlier the month and the reply was "as long as you don't cash out the upload bonus you can still delete your images" seems fair! But please contact Albumo yourselves about this, they are quick and friendly to answer questions... SY
