Title: Activity at Big Stock
Post by: WarrenPrice on March 02, 2009, 15:39
Is it just me or is Big Stock really slow?  Even the Review Queue seems backed up.

Recently I have been only uploading my files as vectors to big stock and have noticed a big drop in sales...I thought it would have the opposite effect.

Very slow sales for me also.
Badly lagging behind the rest.

Review time is five days as of today. About normal for BigStock.

February Sales about 30% better than January. March is starting off hot!

BigStock to me seems nothing has moved in a week no sales no reviews makes me think they have gone on holidays

I had a good month with them in February. Not a BME, but up close.

It's all swings and roundabouts, ebb and flo, waxing and waning ...

In order to have a reliable month to month comparison, you should have at least 1,000 images on your port and even then, a variety of subjects. Example: If your port is 90 % Christmas images do not expect much return this month.

In summary: 1,000 plus images in a variety of concepts. = Reliable month to month comparison to the same month LAST year.

BME in February (up 203% from Feb last year) and a very good start in March. No complaints from me   :)

I used to have most sales from the same 5 photos, almost never recent ones ( < 1 year). That changed recently. They were probably stirring up their search engine a bit. As a consequence, BigStock is slowly catching up now with iStock.

Well my sales are actually up on BigStock this week - I now have over 2000 files on there, and had been uploading there more out of habit than anything, but this week, sales are more than double any previous week in the last 3 years.

Maybe they've changed something in their search?

Me too.  Of course it is matched by a comparable drop on istock.  Probably coincidence.

The stock gods giveth and the stock gods taketh away ;)

And Atilla ruins Their plans.  ;D
What's the god of stock by the way? The god of wine and parties is Dionysus, the god of Dreamstime is Achilles, the god of thunder is Zeus. What would be the god of iStock? I go for Narcissus (http://yeeha.org/genesis/notes/narcissus.html).

Quote
Narcissus -- in Greek mythology, was distinguished for his beauty. His mother was told that he would have a long life, provided he never looked upon his own features. His rejection, however, of the love of the nymph Echo or of his lover Ameinias drew upon him the vengeance of the gods. He fell in love with his own reflection in the waters of a spring and pined away (or killed himself);

lol, Narcissus killed himself. is that a prophecy ?
Achilles is not a god, in Greek mythology, though. but i think DT Achilles is as awesome as the original. he (of DT) is communicative, and i wish him well. hate to find his Achilles heel, as DT is a good site to belong.
as for IS god? maybe not Narcissus. i prefer IS god to be aptly Medusa ! disagree with her and she will turn you to stone

I can't really speak from too much experience.
I'm new to this, but comparatively speaking, BigStock has suddenly dropped in review pace...
I have images waiting for 10 days now.

Also, I haven't made a sale there, and I've made 34 at Shutterstock, and one (YEAH A WHOLE ONE) at FT in 3 weeks.

I'm sticking around though - by the sounds of things, BigStock could come back at any time, and I wanna be on the train when it starts gathering speed again ;)

Sales are stepping up a bit there but review times are ridiculous.  I uploaded to all sites 10 days ago and have had dozens of sales frrom the batch over all sites but BS haven't even looked at them yet.

yes, i have to admit that although i like Bigstock, the review time has been dead slow , if not moving at all these past weeks. not sure why? it used to be faster.
i hope things get back to normal soon, whatever the reason for this recent "stupor" in review time.
maybe the reviewers are on spring break. hope they come back to work soon.

Why even care how long it takes to review anybodys images? As long as it is done correctly is what counts. For the last few months I have been recieving 100% approved on BigStock ... at that rate I do not care if it takes a month to review them.

I have been on BigStock going on three years and I have seen the review times go from hours to 19 days. They recently made some very nice changes to the site and I would guess that some of their time was spent on that project. (If you don't know what the changes are ... go there and look around!)

Very steady paychecks from BigStock.

^^ I hope their reviewers are not coding the site or their IT stuff reviewing the images ;]]. It certainly does not seem to be the case... They have good stable site and good fair reviews.

I remember they suspended uploading once or twice in past. Obviously the quantity uploaded can fluctuate quite a bit in time.

We're not all so fortunate, or experienced, Larry.  Those of us with much less than three years with BigStock are nearly as concerned about "building" our portfolio as "selling" our portfolio.  The sooner we get images online, the sooner we can change our focus.

In three years, we will be the ones lecturing the complainers.  ... Or maybe not ... you will have six years with BigStock.   ;D

Feel I must mention the fairness of their process.  I had one rejected for "recognizable person."  The picture was five balls of crochet thread.  Just got an email from Joseph reversing the reviews "mistake."   :D

I've been with BigStock for a whole whopping <wait for it>... 3 weeks!
I haven't had a sale yet, but from what I see, seems I could be pleasantly surprised if I keep working on my portfolios.
I agree with the review times - it's taken a while to get reviews done, often 10 days or more...
Still, I think I'll stick around :)

I wouldn't be too sure.  I upload to 7  agencies and they account for about 3 - 4% of my sales.

I haven't had a sale yet, but from what I see, seems I could be pleasantly surprised if I keep working on my portfolios.

Yeah.
I just posted a thread above this one, asking how long it takes people to see sales on BigStock, and how big the portfolios are when sales start rolling in.
Just as a matter of interest. I think I'll create a poll instead perhaps.
