Title: Big Stock Revenues
Post by: ichiro17 on April 21, 2006, 11:41
Hey everyone.

I only have 12 photos on Big stock right now with 17 pending.  I was wondering how much people are making on the site and how many photos they have uploaded to this "BIG FIVE" site.

As well, does anyone have any tips.  I just bought a Digital Rebel XT and I would like to get some sales to make back some of that money.   ;D

Well tip number one is getting all the images at the big 5 sites.
However, on that note, I think fotolia or stockXpert could be in Bigstock's place, as they produce more $$ for me.

and keep uploading.  earnings won't be too much before you have 1-200 images at least

Hi Rinder,

Glad you could join this site.

Those 12 were in April.  The site has picked up now that I have about 200 on there, but I still don't like it as it has gone down the toilet in general.

I hope to hear more from you on this site as your wisdom would be nice to learn from.

I have over 650 pictures on Bigstock, and they generate a steady income.  It is not the biggest selling site, but it is steady and regular. It is also one of the friendliest sites with admin that respond to queries rapidly and in a friendly manner.

I have on BigStock for almost two months, with 160 pictures, I know it's such a small portfolio, but compared with my revenues from other sites, BigStock really is in the toilet, is it worthwile to keep it?

I have only 18 downloads during the same time, while I have 108 from FT, and 202 from DT, of course SS has 577 downloads in half of the time but double the images ( plus 3 entended license sale!)

With the commitment of 90 days, and low sales, doesn't sound this is a viable place to spend my time on it, what do you think?

i would say it is in the middle of the ball park.

if you are bored one day, it is probably worth it to upload your images there.  If you don't have the time, don't bother.  I have all my images up there and earn about $1.50/ day, so it is ok, and i get a payout every other month, so that is nice.  So they DO have business, just not much.

The good  :)

FTP
Fast reviews at the moment
Just broke thru the 1,000 barrier here and I am averaging 1 DL/day for september so not up to SS but better than CanStockPhoto + StockXpert
50c for 600 x 800 pixels
$30 payout - very nice to get your hands on your cash

The bad  :'(
slightly cumbersome category system
50c for 8 mp - size does matter!

The Ugly  >:(
images have to be on site for three month scuppers any ideas of selling the image outright on DT

At the moment I am pleased with their progress and will continue uploading there.

I have a portfolio of 325 images at BigStock. They are nice people to work with - sales aren't great, but increasing steadily. They are worth uploading to, for me anyway. I submit to six sites, they are tied at the bottom with Fotolia, but still worthwhile.

So with their 90 day policy, you can not sell any exclusive deals elsewherer?

If you sell an image outright on DT (the fibal box in their licence agreement) you have to remove it from all your portfolios across the net most sites will allow you to delete your images immediately but BigStock have their 90 day wait.

Has anyone ever sold an image outright??

How much do they buy it for? I would never sell an image outright unless I was offered really big bucks for it (unless it was one of those images I took when I pressed the shutter release accidentally   ;)  )

Typically its' around 350-750 range, I think I have checked most images, maybe I should take the check mark off since some of them are uploaded to BigStock as well.

On request I sold an image for $750 giving me $375 commission. On retrospect, given the image (a group of business people applauding) and the sales it had generated on other sites, I shoud've made the price at least $1500, giving me $750. I forgot I would only get half!

Anyway, plan to shoot a similar shot with different models soon. BigStock were fine with removing the image for me. Dawn is always very understanding and helpful in my experience.

phildate,

Glad to hear BigStock played nice but considering you are in the big league (in terms of sales) they would be rather silly to mess you around as it you pulled your entire portfolio there it would affect their sales.

Hi everybody,

I have a portfolio on Bigstock and I think I know why sales seem to be consistently infrequent.  There is something about how their system ranks keywords!  In my case I could have the title of a photo, which descibes the photo, and is also listed first in the keywords, but the photo may not show up using the search terms or it may be located near the last page on that search!  There were even photos that didn't remotely fit the search terms that showed up before my photos!  Keywording is something I'm very familiar with and my results work great on the other sites I upload to except Bigstock.  I sent a inquiry about the best way to use keywords on their site but haven't got a response.

As you all know, keyword searches are the best way someone can find your photos!

Anyone else notice this with their submissions?
