Title: Bigstock fails to read Title from jpeg IPTC Data
Post by: einstein on April 14, 2014, 07:38
I use the following IPTC field to write my titles into jpeg files:

"Iptc.Application2.Headline"

Shutterstock reads the data out correctly, but on Bigstock I need to reenter the Title manually which is very annoying.
Is that Bigstock's fault and should I contact their support or do they just use a different Field for Titles?

If they use a different IPTC field then which one is it?

"Iptc.Application2.Title" is not supported by IPTC standard:

I haven't uploaded to BS in a while but if it's anything like SS I would try using the caption field instead.
In SS I did a test. I put info in the Title field and if it was too long it screwed it up. If I put the info in the Caption field all is well.
If both Title and Caption are filled SS picks up the Caption and ignores the Title. See if BS works the same way.

I didn't know that any site, ever, read headline. Interesting.

0x0078    120    Iptc.Application2.Caption    String    No    No    0    2000    A textual description of the object data.

Document Title
Caption (Description)
Keywords

I add Copyright Status and Copyright: my name while I'm at it, because maybe some day the photo will go someplace else. But stock sites strip it out. I also make sure to set the date to the actual date of the photo, not the edit date, because some sites are very picky about metadata matching, file Editorial Caption date, exactly!

Some software identifies it as Caption some as Description. Same field.

Update:

I wrote them an email and they never answered. So that's about their excellent service ;)

I finally figured out myself what was wrong:
Bigstock doesn't use "IPTC.Title" for the title. It uses

IPTC.ObjectName

Very intuitive programmers on Bigstock ;)

There system has done that since I started uploading to them in 2007.  Always were some images that just got caught in the twilight zone, forcing me to copy and paste from my Word document.
