Was it worth waiting?

I am not going to buy one for at least 6 months.  Will wait and see what is available then.

Yeh,  It's been a long time since I upgraded. The old 1Ds is still a great camera but the new ones are just so far ahead now.

Probably yes. I am waiting for detailed reports with real-life samples; and comparison with 5D. Then I will decide whether I will really save for 5D mk2 as I suppose (or to buy 5D while they are still available at cheap price).

Only if I sell my kindey. :D To expensive for me.

But I will buy new EOS 50D in January 2009.

Might not be any new ones left in January 2009

No one is going to let that camera get through Christmas 2008 in stock

At 21MP, I'd say "Yes."  Not only would it be a walk in the park to get an image large enough for Alamy, you'd also be able to get XXL sized images for other microstock sites without any difficulty.  I'd even consider re-shooting some stuff so that larger versions are available.

I think I got 20D for 4 years. I skipped 30-50D and 5D so I guess this time I will upgrade. It's only matter when.

I just pre-ordered mine.  This is the first time EVER that I am buying a camera when it first comes out.  Usually I wait for them to iron out any bugs, but it is almost 3 years since I bought my 5D and I am really jonesing to upgrade.

At least on paper this 5D MkII looks like it has everything I wanted in an upgrade and more.

Now just praying they are bug free on release (which would be a first, LOL)

yes, early next year after it has been tested / reviewed in detail.

still use my 20D (since 20005). it's time to update.
for stock the +20 Mpix are nice
for weddings the high ISO should be great.

not sure if I upgrade my old computer (3 GHz dual core, 2GB RAM) as well  ...

I have the 'old' 5D, so I will be keeping it as backup and purchasing the MK2 probably in the spring.
Anyone want a lightly used 20d?(my current backup cam)  ;)

Now mind you, all bets are off if Nikon comes out with a 24mp version of the 700D at about $3500 or so.
That would be THE camera to buy for my needs.

man we are a bunch of disorganised suckers. There are about 15 of us in this thread alone saying we want one. I reckon we could easily find 50.

If 50 of us got together I am sure we could get 25% off.

The margins are incredible when they skim the early adopters. They really know how to work the prestige conscious.

OK, we probably could get 50 buyers together... but how may different countries do we represent?

USA warranty is not the same as 'fill in your country here' warranty.
Also I think the logistics would be a bit tough.

It IS a good idea though, at least in theory.

I'm thinking of buying it, butwill have to sell all my Nikon gear first and borrow some extra money. I think it is worth it. 21mpix? full 1080p HD video? d90 was very interesting to me, but rolling shutter, and  (now) ONLY 12mpix doesn't look so hot, anymore.

I very much doubt you would get 25% off - maybe 5%

Got a price list from Drop Shipper Network in front of me now with 25% discounts for 20 sales. And they are one of the more expensive distributors.

Henrys and Aden in Canada have it for preorder.  Aden is giving away an 8GB card too for free.  It looks like a good deal there.

Sweet. might preorder too, not sure.

I ordered from Amazon, here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001G5ZTLS

Calumet has been advertising them for preorder too, but I like Amazon because they are about the only place left that offers 30 day return policy.

Currently, item can be shipped only within the U.S.

unfortunately that's what Amazon says for them moment. I wonder if others will have the same restriction,I wouldn't be surprised as the price difference between the US and  EU (also  the  UK) is so huge. Or it could be just  apply to pre-orders ???

amazon often restrict items to 'only in the us' or other countries.

I am guessing bhphoto will be available to everywhere.

wow.. I just looked on BHphoto, and they don't have any pre-orders, but they do have a 'notify when in stock' link.  HOWEVER, when you click on that button you get this message

I think there might be a bit of a back log on this camera.  I was hoping to get it before the middle of December :(

here is the camera on bhphoto

it'd be too bad as I was hoping a friend visiting US  for Xmas could  buy it for me but  if there was a delay then I'd have to buy it in EU:(((
