It's on its way!   :D

I cannot wait to shoot macro with this lens.  With the 30D 1.6 crop, I'm going to be as close as I want to be.  I love to shoot food, nature details, and object details, so it was just a matter of time before I went truly macro.

Cannot find a single remotely negative word about this lens.  Now it's just up to me to express myself creatively and produce technically sound material.

add to it an extension tube and  you will get to things even more closer without the loss of image quality.

Dan, I'm jealous! Please share your experiences with it once you get it.  I am also a very macro person in microstock.  :)

Regards,
Adelaide

Thank you Adelaide.  I did not consider myself a macro person, but the more I shoot, the closer I want to get.  So I've got the bug.   8)

Apparently a lot of photographers swear by it as a portrait lens too.

Yes, it is a very sharp lens, but it has its flaws.

I sometimes found it underpowered, and often wished I had bought Canon's 180mm pro lens instead. Because it is a macro lens, most of the focusing range is used in the <2m range, which places limits on its use as a portrait and general use lens.

In order to shoot "nice" macro shots you will need a dedicated lens-mounted flash - I hope you've factored that into your budget.

No, I had not.  What about hand held reflector material?  I usually carry a small white board or something of the like with me when I am shooting in the back yard.

It's the only decent lens I have. I even have landscape photo's in my portfolio!  :)

Maybe. In the long run you may find that it functions better as a wind blocker than as an adequate and reliable source of primary light. I guess you're going to find out ... good luck!

While I do have a macro flash(I have the Sigma ringflash, I find I get better results (easier to diffuse, more directional) lighting by using an ordinary ETTL flash mounted on an improvised flash bracket so it angles down near the front of the lens (you need an off camera cord for this if you are using Canon gear).
My best results using the ring flash have just been using it as fill, with the main light provided by my Sigma DG Super as an off camera slave- as the only source of light the ring flash  can be a bit harsh and I suspect would generate istock lighting rejections (although I haven't used it enough to get any yet!).

So far, so great.  This lens is absolutely beautiful.  I am shocked by the sharpness, even with my 1.6x crop 30D.  It looks noticeably more sharp than the 50mm 1.8 Plastic Fantastic that I like quite a bit.  Perhaps it is just easier to focus manually...not sure if that is the reason.  But there is a big difference.

Now I just need to get creative.  I have a few obligatory macros already uploaded on SS, but nothing noteworthy.

Can you show as some sample images from this lens in macro use? You shutterstock link is not working

I am not in macro, but since I saw your pictures, I wonder if I am sure I don't need such a lens ?

Nice shots indeed, Gregor909!

I feel compelled to say that the reason you aren't selling them is that your keywording is remarkably lacking.

Thanks. Yeah maybe you right, I'm neglecting my photo's a bit lately, because vectors sell better! But I think I will edit those keywords anyway!
