I had a bad experience when I purchased from Adorama. After ordering online they called me so that they could hard sell me on other things. I don't like it when someone tries to upsell me after I've already made the purchase and especially don't like it when the person doing the hard sale is lying to me in order to make the sale. That was just my experience and maybe it was a unique one but I don't think so. I've only purchased from B&H and Amazon since then.

You don't say when this happened; I would estimate over 12 months ago?
There has been substantial investment in staff training during the past year, and  restructuring within certain departments. Of course, as with any large company, it only takes one or two employees to damage the image of an entire company - and every other employee within it.

I can only apologise, and hope that you would consider shopping with us again. If you were to find this - or any thing else in our customer service -unacceptable, happening again, please don't hesitate to contact me again, directly.

Sincerely

I agree, and I've spent more than $18000 with B&H.

Its really disappointing that they can't see that loyalty.  I will be going elsewhere if I need something for sure.

Anyways, hopefully the marketing people at Adorama can see the potential to steal away a few customers from B&H

Well, you have us all a-buzzing here at Adorama! It would be the first time we've tried anything like this - so anyone with any bright ideas, please let me know. To avoid this thread getting way out of hand (& off topic), is it possible that your thoughts or ideas could come to me through your moderator / list owner? We could then look at linking him / her directly to someone in our marketing team.

You do need to be aware that we are approaching our annual vacation period, so we wouldn't be able to progress this until the end of October. That, though, gives time for some creative thinking on the part of forum contributors.

What really tweaked me, is that they wouldn't price match Amazon, first of all, and then 1.5 months later, they dropped the price on the Mk3 $200, and wouldn't refund it to me.

To anyone who hasn't done business with Adorama and wonders about their level of service, I would highly recommend them.

I have been buying camera gear there for about 8 years and never had any problems with hard selling or any other customer service issues.  I have also had to return some things over the years and never had any problem with that either.

In fact, I have an order pending with them right now for some lighting.

I already pre-ordered my 5D II at Amazon because I like their 30 day return policy, but if Adorama should come up with a discount or some other offer and could match the 30 day return policy I would definitely buy from them instead.

I would appreciate a discount just as much as the next guy/gal but I am having a hard time seeing it happening on an item that is going to be in such short supply. What I can see, is a special deal on these new extra large cards (64GB or 32GB) since we will be needing them for our video adventures  8)

I have bought stuff from them too Lisa.

I am in Australia, and the reason I chose them was they accept PayPal.

The stuff arrived fast, well packed, and all  enquiries were dealt with professionally.

HOWEVER, I just think the $millions the people from this forum alone spend on gear each year deserves something better.

The manufacturers run around pleasing the pros with sponsorship etc, and we get nothing. I would hope a big place like Adorama might be able to build something we could join, therefore we show our committment, and then they go back to their suppliers and ask them to sharpen their pencils.

A big discount. That is what I want.

Interesting. I am in Australia too. I spend +10k with B&H. However, they only accept Paypal for US/UK/Canada citizens, so I paid via CC

How much is Adorama shipping to Australia? A 5D from B&H to Australia is about 65US$

I have already purchased in Adorama when in NY.  I always get dizzy in such stores, so much to choose from!  ;D

If it wasn't for the complication in case of any problem that needs a return or change, I would happily buy online and pay import fees.  Photo equipment in general is so expensive here in Brazil.

Adelaide

Yes it would be great to have Adorama to give us a good discount. If they make us a good price I would buy from them from Germany. I just hope the shipping cost would not be high, because this would be taxed as well. I plan to spend a couple of thousands in the next years on gear.

I would buy from Adorama if the deal was right. Here in the UK, prices are way more expensive than in the US. I have bought lenses from the US in the past, and saved loads of money.
There is a vast customer base just waiting to be tapped!

I don't think they will leave us waiting too long to find out.

In Australia, in normal retail sales the profit margin for these sorts of consumer goods is 25 - 32%. This does not of course take into consideration the skimming for the early adapters.

A company will make choice of pricing strategies dependent upon whether it chooses market penetration (lower price) or skimming (higher price).

Added to this is a distributor margin of about 7%. Even the biggies like Best Buy still use the distributor network simply because of the logistic advantages.

Dare to dream

What is probably most important here is that this is the limit for most lens performance, so anymore in the MP is just too much.  Plus I really dont' want to store 25MB RAW files :)

So after the 5D its probably the MK IV for me with fps priority over size of files

I had a very similar experience.  I placed an order and received a call from a very rude guy trying to upsell me while lying to me in the process.  When I called the guys bluff he hung up on me.  Needless to say I canceled that order.  This was several years ago and I haven't been back since.  I understand what Helen is saying about how they have changed things but it's hard to erase that kind of treatment from ones mind.  Perhaps I'll consider them again if I can't find an item anywhere else but they won't be my first choice.

Helen,
Thanks for chiming in.  It is nice to know that there is someone we can go to if a similar occurrence happens.  Welcome.

Thank you for the welcome; I'm delighted to be able to be of service.

I'm really sorry to hear about your previous experience; the probability is that the rep is no longer with us if this occurred a few years ago. My appointment last December was one of the final pieces in the plan to drastically improve and invest in Customer Care - alongside targeted staff training and supervision. We are currently work on a proposal, with great ideas from the forum moderator, for offering some special deals, so I do hope you feel able to take these up.

Best wishes

Helen

does that mean it is sold out even before it arrives?
I actually trust the canon people they must be smart enough to cover the demand for the product a since they are smart enough to produce a camera like this ;D
