no IS?  Is this any different to the existing lens of similar spec?

they must have improved sharpness or barrel distortion or... something.  They put at II in the name, that has got to count for something right?

I have the previous version of this lens.
Gee, I have no complaints about it's performance.

However it erks me to know that I am now the proud owner of $1,400 failure.
The recipient of an inferior Canon lens....(sulking in the corner)

Well, they came out with a II version of the 1.8 50mm. The I version is a lot better than the II. Don't know if they would do the same to L-glass though....

That I wouldn't care about since I have the f1.4 50mm
It don't affect me.
