Title: Canon Powershot G11

The powershot G series just got another update with the Powershot G11 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LITT56?ie=UTF8&tag=microsameetin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B002LITT56).  I am still drooling over these. It sure seems like they would make a great point and shoot for times when you don't want a dslr or a dslr would be impractical.

I was looking forward to this but I am surprised it doesn't have HD video.  Going back to 10mp is a good move, It was getting silly cramming in more and more on a small sensor.  If the image quality is great, I might buy it but I will wait and see what panasonic do with the LX3 replacement.

Yeah, that is an interesting advancement.  Canon G10 was 14.7mp and this was is 10mp like you said.  Perhaps this will mark the end of the megapixel race and onto image quality.  It supposedly records 2 stops more of light.

well i haven't tried it but I am sure there are quite a few stock shots on the micros taken with it (or the previous models).  It is 10 mp so you could easily cut them down to 5 or 6 mp to improve sharpness and noise.  You would have to shoot at ISO 100 for sure but if you did all that, the image should be OK in a pinch :)

I've had a few photos accepted from my G9.  It's the camera I keep in my laptop bag for situations when the big camera might not be appropriate.  One example from a quick trip to Florida for a friend's wedding:

When I downsize to around 6mp with my G9, the quality is great.  The only drawback is a longer shutter lag than with a dSLR.  If they fixed that, I would probably use it all the time.

Not to keen on the new swivel screen thats a turn off   ;)

The whole idea of usage for me is candids or grab shots when I do not want to Lug all my equipment around and would have preferred to keep it as compact and convenient as possible with the screen fixed, not bothered about self portraits, may wait and see how much the G10 drops in price

For me the movable screen's the best part!  I used an Olympus 7070 with a movable screen for a lot of the isolated stuff in my port.  The screen made it easier to position the camera in awkward places without having to lie on the floor to check framing and focus.  Also good for holding the camera over your head to get crowd shots.  Definite advantage for we vertically challenged types.

The S90 has the same sensor as the G11 and will be easier to fit in my pocket.  No viewfinder, hot shoe or rotating screen though.

I use the G10 as a second, and just love the camera for how easy it is to use on manual, especially the on screen histogram. Noise is the biggest downturn with the G10.

Will upgrade to the G11 for the swivel screen, which I wish I had on my Canon DSLR as well.

I see that the S90 can also shoot in RAW.  RAW is one of the big selling factors for me with the G10 / G11.  That an easy manual settings.  The hot shoe doesn't hurt either.  Stick a pocket wizard on there and you can make fancy shots with an off camera flash!

Funny I was doing some night shots with the G9 tonite and was wondering about the G11:) Interesting that they came down to 10 MP, but I wonder why they did not keep the 12.3 MP of the G9?
Should be a fine camera though. Pretty happy with the G9 I  passed some pictures to Istock after downsized them to 5MP

It is f2.8-f8.  As it is a small sensor, f8 is a small aperture and gives a huge depth of field.  I wouldn't want more than that.

I confirm that: I work at f:2.8 with the G9 to do infrared pictures and the depth of field is already important!
