It was announced last fall and it is now available for the Yuri's of the world.

It shoots regularly 50mp though.. and can 'only' shoot 200mp if you give it 30seconds and allow it to stitch 6 images together.

Who on earth needs a 200 mega pixel camera ? (execpt NASA).
Sounds like a marketing thing to me.
A dollar better spend will get you the 80mp Leaf back without any stitching.
-
I will wait until Yuri give them away on Facebook!
-
I'm afraid one also needs a new computer with faster processor, full gigabit ethernet, USB 3.0, additional storage... besides the camera cost, it's more difficult than it seems.
-
Human eye is about 550 Mpix.... I mean, a human eye can't really be translated to Mpix, but when we compare the ability of a human eye to see details, it's similar to 550Mpix camera.

Istock just created a new category....H+

To be honest though, I upgraded from tthe HD3 to the HD4, for commissioned work only and yes thay are superb, if cumbersome but looking back there really isnt much these can do that you cant do with the D3X or the 5dMII, I think they are slightly overrated.

^^^ don't forget its not only the MP's, its superior optics as well! (and the pride that you own a MF camera...)
-
Sounds like they are trying to imitate foveon in large resolution. Does this work in real life? You just cough next to the caera, and the whle process becomess useless... think about it, the camera has to be super-stationary up something like 1/1000 mm.
-
Wow! Look at the example they've posted of a 200MB picture! It looks really impressive when reduced to 780kB, doesn't it?
I suppose it has limited use for really big product posters that people want to rub their noses against. Some Fortune 500 clients will probably be impressed enough to stump up the cost of the camera for one shot of their latest gizmo.
