I got serious about photography about 5 years ago. Messed around with it for 35 years prior. When I got into DSLR cameras all of a sudden I am paying some serious money for this stuff. It took me a few years to learn how to buy. That included figuring out what I really wanted, what could I afford, where to buy it and other questions like that. The short version is buy used or refurbished Canon or Nikon Cameras and Lens. Sigma and Tamron are good as well. Think a lot about what you want. Read the reviews, talk to other photographers, rent one if you can. Then buy it at your local camera shop if they are competitive. If not use Ebay, B&H, Adorama, or Fred Miranda. I decide what I need, go to B&H and order it.

I compare prices at wex and amazon UK and order it. Sometimes B&H is cheaper, even with shipping and taxes; but the potential hassle if something had to be returned under guarantee makes it risky (unless something has an international guarantee).

+1 the difference between used and new esp. lenses is negligable for brand name lenses - I would rather have new and the warranty
If you want older used cameras - then yes here you can save some money
but generally I always buy new from BH - theyre service and prices are great

By used from B&H, they give you their own warranty and you save a fistfull.
