Homel*nd Secur*ty will love it (and be able to afford it. I think the 300-800 5.6 is 6K.
That's the lens I would have needed for the eclipse. Darn too late.

You would have photographed the Moon's inhabitants with that lens....

I just read that a 2X Teleconverter is supplied with the lens, that makes 400-1000mm, how nice and even more on a lot of digital cameras like on the D20 because of the crop factor.
But I guess you cannot be on your own anymore. You need a team i guess. At least two people to carry the lense and the massive tripod which is required  ;D

I want one.  I have the tripod that can handle it - all I'd need is a Wimberly tripod head for it.

I could very easily become paparazzi with it.  I can see myself sitting at the bottom of Vail ski resort on a deck with umbrella drinks and my 400-1000 millimeter lens trying to spot movie stars skiing down the mountain.

Oh yeah!  I think I found a new career!

....just thought of something...I wonder if it's weather sealed and if it comes with a lens hood?

Hummmmm

Guess it's time to sell the 300 2.8 or not.
Just add the beast and a couple of cargo guys.

The tripod is also here along with the head. Just need the lens and some space to go back.
This one just needs some space to work.

I wonder how noce can be to shoot sports with this one.
If the quality and price come to the right side of the bar, I guess this one is just one of the must have lenses, for sports and wildlife.

Where can I place my order?

What are your guesses on price?

I'm guessing $9,000!

I would think it would compete with Canon's 400mm f/2.8 that's so popular with sports photographers.  I think between $7,000 and $9,000 is pretty much in line.

The 300-800 f/5.6 goes for $5,900.

At last a portrait lens that creates some distance to the subject. Actually, the subject may not even have to leave home   :D

And for travelling, you don't even need to leave the hotel. Just book a room at the top floor, and take close-up images of anything in the whole city. Should be a nice compliment to the Zeiss 1700mm f/4.0. Bring both, and you're all set   :D
