The first Canon I bought was Powershot G7 10 mp (actually in my purse right now). LOVE the camera and still use it because it is so portable. All of the agencies I upload to will take the photos from this camera if I shoot at ISO 80 or 100. But the G10 has the RAW image recording that the G7 did not. Great high quality point and shoot. :)

yeah, that is exactly why i dream about this camera :) It would be a great pocket camera for when it is not practical to take a DSLR

Remote Switch (RS-60E3) = The cabled version that some other Canon cameras already use. Something missing from the G-9 and why I bought a G-6. Little wireless remote is fine, but I don't mind having something wired.
I like the black color, 14.7MP CCD, 28-140mm equivalent, with IS! Standard raw format that you can open without special software.
Slightly larger than a pocket, but without being an SLR it does almost everything else a full size camera can do. I think it's a great little camera (my G-6) for second shots and wide angle when the DSLR has a tele mounted on it and something pops up that needs wide.
Great for camping and travel when I don't want to lug around a full size camera.
Wish list for Spring, because the 5D II comes first.

neat, might be a good thing when it's not appropriate to take out the big cam - without loosing too much on quality, those specs are impressive - although the G9 already was well worth it

I own a G9.
Personally I really don't like IQ, even at 80-100 ISO.
Even in quite even and smooth light situation some of the areas with bright tone come up with blows and not-recoverable highlights.
I feel Canon R&D guys squeezed too many MP's in that tiny sensor.
I just keep it for family and friends snapshot.

I have many accepted on the micros with the G9. I downsize to 5 or 6mp and use selective noise reduction. Sometimes I take 2 or more photos and join them together.
Don't think I will buy the G10, will wait and see what the other companies come up with.

MAny of the Canon Powershot series cams can be hacked to shoot Raw. I remember doing it with my 5 megapixel Canon a610 - but it was a pain. Had to take the images, then convert them to dng, then open them in your Raw editor. I wish they just enabled all of the options on products. I still sometimes submit images from my point and shoot, and they get in easily if shot at lower ISO and neatimaged.
Quality of the point and shoots though? That's another story. I had to get my Canon fixed like 3 times. Can't say anything bad about their factory service though. They're kind on the phone, and pretty fast to repair things. They even helped me once when I was a few months past warranty.

You might also want to take a look at the Canon Powershot SD950 IS (IXUS 960). Many of the reviews rate this camera very highly.
