Not sure if this is going to go into the video of DSLR section, but the company RED is coming out with a supposidly fancy new camera in a couple days.  I wonder what it will be???

wow, the details are out and it looks..... ummm.. spledidly interesting.  It is more like a do-it-yourself tinker toy version of a DSLR (or fantastic video camera) where you can mix and match and build exactly the type of camera you want. ... yes, one even up to 261 megapixels...  :o

While it does look very interesting (from a technical viewpoint), the estimated production dates start in the next year or so and the prices are astronomical - the "brains" start at $2,500 and go up to $55,000 and that doesn't include lenses, sensor modules, I/O modules, recording modules, batteries, etc.  Before your finished your probably looking at a $20,000 camera that only shoots 5 MP.

yeah.. well i have to agree it looks expensive. :)

And the pricing seems to be not fully available yet, you might do better than a 5 mp camera for $20,000.  You may be able to get a 24mp camera for that much, excluding lenses as you can use canon or nikon lenses.

Does sound fun though.. better than buying an old fancy car in my opinion! If you've got the cash... 8)

Wired Magazine profiled RED's first camera a few months ago. Given the philosophy and drive of the owner (Oakley founder and camera fanatic), it's a good bet that anything this company does is going to set the camera industry on it's ear. Go here to see what I mean.

We made our first commercials with RED ONE few moths ago, and this was something that any of us want forget until the end of our lives. RED changed whole industry. Working with RED, form me, was something witch I can't explain. Check our promo movie from the set:
