Kodak has engineered a new digital filter that supposedly can double or quadruple the light sensitivity in digital cameras:

Flashless P&S cameras for the consumer.  Sporting events won't be the same. :)

I found another article on DPReview.com that is a little more in-depth.  Apparently, there is a slight tradeoff with color resolution.

The article also has some examples of the new technology in use.
