Why so low in megapixel, the D300 is almost the same excepted for the full frame, the new Canon is like 22 mega...

They wanted to make it fast.  It is currently the word's fastest camera (@ 9 fps) according to their announcement.  Increasing the size of the image would have slowed it down.

This is from the Nikon press release:

"At 9 fps, the D3 is the world’s fastest full format D-SLR, with an even faster 11 fps consecutive shooting possible in DX crop mode."

There is a note at the bottom of the press release that says:

"As of August 2007."

All this technical info means nothing until we see some test shots of noise at 200, 800, 1600 and 3200. FPS...well, I would hardly ever use that. 51 AFS points...well, slight overkill if you ask me. FF....yeah, great for landscapes but not so useful in studio.

I will probably wait for the D3X which is rumoured to be 23mp. That will give XXL size on IS and will still be able to crop and get XL.

Lucky USA: 5000 USD.

In Germany: 5150 EUR = 6982 USD !  >:(

But I´ll wait until D3X.

D300 is due out in Nov with a list price of about $1700, a much better deal on a great camera.

Have to agree on the D300. If money is an issue at all, the D300 is an incredible deal. I would rather have both though  ;D

well,I have been a Canoner so far and I was thinking of investing in some new L glassess pretty soon but usd 1700 deal for D300 sounds quite tempting I must say.(I wish this lead   a price cut in 5D  ;)
