I love the fovean sensor and now sigma have made a new one with more MP's, around 15mp.  If this is the same quality as the old smaller sensor, I will have to buy one of these.

I hooked on this yesterday. On the article it was written a 43mpx APS-C or something. I think they meant 3 sensors of 15mpx then.

I don't exactly understand the utility of having 3 sensors, but it must be a nice camera. Though, it doesn't qualify for most of the XXL sales.

The way the Fovean sensors work is that they are a stacked chip, transparent to different frequencies of light.  Essentially the various frequencies for Red, Green, and Blue light are filtered down the photocell to individual sensors for each band.  Thus their 15MP size is actually made up of 43MP of photocell information.  This lets them render colors much more accurately than on traditional digital cameras, because the regular digital cameras actually have separate red, green, and blue photocells laid out in a pattern.  Then they interpolate what the color was supposed to be based on what each cell recorded.  With the Fovean sensors, it knows and doesn't have to guess.  From the samples I've seen in the past color is very rich, and the images are very sharp.

I'm still waiting for the pentax mf or that nifty new fuji x100, looks like a fun camera to have.  This would be nice if it was in a compact but a dslr has to have 21+ mps now or it's just not worth it for me.

^^^If this is as good as the previous sensor, 21mp will be no problem.  These files can be enlarged a lot without much noticeable loss in quality.  They should look better than any 21mp camera.  Hopefully they will also put this sensor in a compact, like they did with the old one.

Foji looks very promissing. The price range should be around 1000$ and if that's true I think I'll get one.

Yeah I will too if I get to the 35% level at IS that will be my reward.  If one the other hand I get about 10,000 ELs in the next 3 months to get 45% I think I'll get a leica m9.

^^I'm not too sure about upsizing all my images though.

I would suggest reading the chapters "Comparison to Bayer filter sensors operational differences" and especially "Spatial resolution" in here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foveon_X3_sensor

I believe it quite nicely sums up the difference and the difficulty of comparing the Faveon and Bayer sensor it terms of MPS.

Looks like an exciting camera. As I understand it though for the purposes of submitting to Istock, to submit the images as anything over 15MP you'd technically be upsizing the image, and it would be against the submission terms. Great shame really.

This would be an interesting camera if they wouldn't have chosen APS-C instead of Full Frame.

Yes this is the case. There was a big discussion about it on IS forums 3 or 4 years ago. It's the resoultion of the single sensor, not the total of the three.

I'm looking forward to this one, could be a good solution for fine art landscapes.

Not a problem for me any more, I stopped uploading to istock, less than 20% commission is too low for me.
