well i can't say i really like the looks of the camera, but 25mp and full frame all for under $2500 sounds like it will raise the bar a bit for canon and nikon.

Hopefully the 5D has some pretty attractive specs.

Considering it has internal image stabilisation and Carl Zeiss compatibility, I would have trouble upgrading to the 5D unless there was something spectacular.

Mind you, the quality of the sensor is yet to be proven on the Sony I guess.

I think a lot of us long time Canon owners are annoyed with the constant upgrading with minor changes to their models. All it seems to do is make your own gear worthless in a very short time.

D3 has Kodak 14 megapixel DCS-14n sensor. Canon is making sensor in house.

Sony says that it has developed a full-frame, 35mm-format 24.81-megapixel CMOS sensor. As if a high-rez, full-frame sensor isn't good enough, Sony says that the new sensor will be able to yield an impressive 6.3 frames per second. By contrast, Canon says its 21.1MP EOS 1Ds Mark III can shoot up to 5fps. The strange part about the new Sony sensor is that it only offers 12-bit output, while higher-end SLRs, such as Canon's 1Ds Mark III and Nikon's D3, already offer 14-bit output.

Where'd you get this info from? The D3 has a 12MP sensor designed by Nikon. I haven't seen any proof of who manufactures it but Sony seems to be mentioned the most.

I am now mostly interested in the price tag ,which I think would have a certain impact on the market.I don't think I'd convert to sony but their success would mean more competition in the market which could benefit us.

Having recently switched over to Sony DSLR's, I'd definitely consider the A900 as a future purchase should it prove itself to be a good performer and the price is reasonable.
There's certainly alot of great 35mm full frame Minolta lenses still around that should work with the A900.

Kodak and Sony are biggest sensor producers so I think new 24MP sensor from Sony is pretty good for sure. They started very aggresively and Canon/Nikon * are pretty overpriced simply because there is no competitor. Dont be fooled, Sonys cameras are maybe not the nicest but still impressively powerfull and cheap.

This A900 is a very ugly camera. Better hope for it's noise perfomance?

from what I observed some people love it while others hate it I mean the design.but yea performance is what matters  I don't care much of how  the camera looks (still waiting  impatiently for  5d mark ii   ;)

I also wait impatiently for the new 5D. I hope it will kick the Nikon butt to make this 16 mpx FF that I wait for too long now.
