I have a Canon 5DmkII.  Most of the time I have a 24-70mm on it but I also use my 70-200mm f2.8.  I like to walk around and take shots.   Sometimes I will carry 1-2 other lenses in a shoulder bag.  Other times I will carry a tripod as well (not that often).

I discovered Black rapid straps about 1 1/2 years ago.   And I love them.   Wrote a blog post about it here.

BUT......

I do not like the freedom of movement that it has....which is also a plus when you are taking photos.   If I lean over the trunk of my car....clunk... goes the camera on the car.   If I want to climb some boulders to get out on a jetty...crash.... goes the camera on the rocks.   Other that that I love it.....but it does restrict some things.

I know that the Cotton Carrier system that is mounted on the chest is a good solution.   But I don't think that I can take the attention that wearing that system would create.

I also know that there are bags that can go on belts or small backpacks but that defeats the really easy accessibility that I want.

I am leaning towards getting the spider holster and then putting it on a think tank belt as the leg guard on the spider holster looks restrictive in a crouched or sitting position.

But I would love to hear your thoughts on the Spider and Cotton systems?

You are wanting something to carry the camera on your hip?

Hmm.. interesting products.  I feel I have seen those in passing but haven't really compared them before.  I often shoot with two bodies and have one of the bodies just kicking around on the floor somewhere, it would be nice to have it on the hip instead.  i'll have to check them out a bit more...

I do use the Cotton Carrier system when I go hiking and it is almost perfect.  You have to get use to it because the weight of my 5D II with the 24-105 creates a pressure on my chest which is not comfortable when you start getting out of breath (which happens more and more often, don't know why ;)  ).

Of course you can loosen the straps to avoid this but then the camera start bouncing on your chest.

But again when you get used to it, great system.

Leaf, you might like to know that the Cotton Carrier comes with a second kit that attach to your belt so you can easily carry to camera on you.  And you have access to both easily.  Never tried the belt clip but it Looks good.

I've been thinking about a Cotton Carrier since I first saw them. It's nice to hear actual user feedback.

Assuming we are talking about hip holding camera tools, after a bit of reading last night I think I would go with the spider due to a smaller profile on the hip.  It is very unobtrusive and can be worn with the hip pad thing or without.

If we are talking chest holders, I have been pretty happy with the ThinkTank holster I have
