At least it's what I think.
Bigger sensor size, brighter lenses, lighter and more compact. I already see in a near future, whole movies done with DSLR cameras.

crazy though, strapping one of the very few examples of the camera to a car and helicopter and driving around. He wouldn't have been too popular if it had fallen off :)

You can buy the Nikon D90 who make 720p videos for a cheaper price. I thing that shortly every DSLR cameras are going to have the video feature if the 5D MarkII is successful. The video say to me that it will. Even if most of the images are post processed, it will be a great alternative to all the low quality HD video cameras the market have actually.

Interesting; but the fusion betwen photo and video can also come from the other side too.
Imagine a video camera that could take 20MPx still photos while filming; you will never more have to wait for that perfect timing. Just shoot your continuous video and then extract from it perfect photo shots...
With the jumps we see in technology theses days, I see it in a near future!

And with the new RED camera which is coming out, it also points in that direction. A merger of DLSR and video.
edit: yeah.. exactly le_cyclope ... the RED camera is a perfect example of this

I think it is still too early to say video cameras would longer be needed. may be it's true for us and once I got the camera I wouldn't need for another video camera but it's not only us the market targets. DSLR cameras in my opinion still are too complicated gadgets for many consumers. I am sure they'd still prefer simple video cameras. on the other hand with the current technology I am not sure VDSLR s (video shooting DSLR) would be enough to make professionals completely happy.
but it is amazing to see things are changing and may be in a near future it wouldn't be surprising to see both completely merge.
ete:btw that video made me want the camera even more.I can't wait but I guess I'll have to wait a little longer before I could get my hands on it:( because of this backlog issues we have been hearing.

yes, i have to agree with stokfoto. my brother works for one of those big chain stores where they sell electronics from camera to plasma hd tv,etc.. and i asked if they sell the pro level or even mid pro levels dslr. he said, "you must be joking. who buys it? who's going to teach them to use it?"
we forget the marketplace is not "for us". it's for the plug and play, which is why the mobile (cell phone) camera is hot, as with the ipod. which both to a photographer or a audiophile would be a great joke.

Being able to use my canon lenses will be great but I wonder if it is easy to remove dust spots from video footage?

What are these limits based on? Is this because of some sort of memory card limit? If so, what is the card size that this is based on?

Sensor overheating. Also you need a pretty fast memory card to record all that data.

I am sure many have already seen the Red One but in my opinion after people figure out how to handle these file sizes and move and work the post end this is what most tv or film broadcast quality will be shot on. Okay it's $50K but when you consider that what is being used today in serious motion that is just a fraction of the cost( $250,000 for a proper video system ). And the files blow away 35 mm even 70 mm film. Some film companies are already using them but the big agencies don't know how to support the files for stock so Getty will not take motion shot on the Red One yet, YET. I would love to play with one, here is the link. www.red.com/ You get a 12 mg. Raw file from every frame that can be made into it's own still as well. They also have a smaller unit called THE SCARLET for a lot less.
