If I may join in...
I took my first picture at the tender age of 7 with a Kodak Instamatic 126 :D Later, on my 14th birthday, my father bought me a Zenit(h) TTL which I used for many years.
I currently use an EOS 1D MkII and love it!
-
Hey Leaf, your photographic history reminds me mine :
I was given my first camera as a gift from my Grandfather when I was a young teenager in early 80's. A subminiature Minolta 16PS, with its flash clamp to mount cube flashes !

Finally, my current DSLR, a Canon 40D :

to which I may add a FF (probably 5DII) in the near future.

First cam was Zeiss Ikon Contessa rangefinder, now a collector's item. Still have it here somewhere. Was followed by a Yashica TLR (120 roll film). Both were bought used from an old timer photog. First 35mm was Nikon FM followed by Nikon FE2 and then Nikon F4s.
Very first digital was an Olympus point & shoot in 1997 I think.
Now have Nikon D200 and Nikon D3, and all of my old lenses work on them ;-)
For fun an portability have Panasonic DMC LX2 and Panny FZ50. The pannys are noisy, but love the LX2 for quick travel shots because of the 16:9 format achieved with 28mm equivalent lens.

Good idea!
I had first a Nikon F75
(http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:UuI59CrcpgrmwM:http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/htmls/models/Specroom20012003/F75QD-N75QD/F75-N75chrome.jpg)
Then a Nikon D70s
(http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:u5zmfo9fKhz5oM:http://www.monitor.si/images/clanki/slika/Nikon_D70s.jpg)
A D200
(http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:kivlHbtXrqljyM:http://www.livingroom.org.au/photolog/nikon-d200-1-2-1.JPG)
Actually I have a D300
(http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:bq96xjAGd3NSHM:http://www.photomalaysia.com/forums/attachment.php%3Fattachmentid%3D53347%26d%3D1203466468)
And I'm still waiting for this high megapixels Nikon to come out and it's driving me crazy
Only thing I ask for is a 16mpx or more full frame with hopefully the same low noise performance than the actual D3 sensor.
Maybe D800 (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:o4yVNMSWuX5KQM:http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3140/2631050894_6fb8cf2c39.jpg%3Fv%3D0) D3x (http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:etZqLPU8tKZQYM:http://img.xataka.com/2008/04/nikon-d3-big.jpg)
Call it whatever you want, but it's so long to wait for

My parents owned several Polaroids/instamatics while I was growing up. I didn't get my first camera until I was in my early teens. I wanted a SLR but my mom thought I should learn a little more with a p&s. I was crushed. (and the camera was a piece of sh*t). I think the sales person conned her a bit because it wasn't cheap either.
Richoh (??? piece of crap P&S)
Canon AE1 (love that camera and still have it)
Kodak DC210 (2.1 mp woowee!!)
Olympus C4040 (Excellent camera with a super sharp f1.8 lens)
Nikon D80
Next will be a full frame...
-
First was Canon 2MP point and shoot
next was Sony F717 - 5MP
then Canon 20D - 8MP
Now Canon 1DS Mark III - 21MP

My first SLR was a Canon AV-1, purchased 26 years ago. Future? I don't have the slighest idea. I still haven't mastered everything my Canon 400D has to offer me.
In digital, my first camera was Fuji Finepix 2650Zoom, 2MPix. Excellent optics, but lacking any manual setting.
Regards,
Adelaide

After 2 or 3 Kodak Instamatic (135 and 110 if I remember) I bought my first SLR back in 1974, age 14. It was a Praktica L just like the one pictured up here!
In 1985, I bought a Canon EOS 650, one of the first model of the new (at that time) EOS series... And it is still my film camera!
Then I jumped in the Digital era 3 or 4 years ago with a Canon Rebel XT, and last year with my Canon 40D.
Will probably trade it next spring for the 5D MKII...
Funny thread by the way, I really enjoy it!

First was an Argus that shot 120 cassettes. That was in the early 1960's. When my father saw that I was serious about it, he gave me one of his old 35mm cams that he had purchased in the 50's, I believe. A Futura Synchro Compur. I put a lot of miles on that thing. First cam I purchased myself was a Pentax Spotmatic in 1969... In the 70's I switched to a Canon ftbn and have been a Canon guy ever since. For playing in the dirt and water, I had a couple instamatic cams. Didn't want to ruin my Pentax or Canon. When the digital thing started, I did buy myself a Sony Mavica to play with. When I decided I wanted to make the move from mostly film to mostly digital, I got my Canon Rebel. I still have all of them and still used the two older film 35's and the Mavica once in awhile. The Rebel has been my workhorse for some time and still serves me well.
Now, I'm waiting for my Canon 5D Mark II ... and I'm pretty excited about it. 8)=tom

My first was a Pentax MG that my father gave me when I was around 15. Five years later it was a step backwards to Pentax ME Super just because it had more control than the MG. First AF cam was a Pentax MZ-50 (died). Now using my first digital an *ist DS. Saving to buy my first NEW cam a K20 although I wonder if it will stand up as well as my MG and ME more than 30 years old and still as reliable as ever!

I think my first must have been a Kodak Instamatic when I was a kid and I had one of those funny Kodak "disc" cameras somewhere along the line.
My first "real" camera (SLR) was a Nikon FE2 bought around 1982 (I still own it).
I switched to digital about 5? years ago with a Nikon D70.
I upgraded to a Nikon D200 at the beginning of this year. The D70 has been relegated to underwater photography.
No definite plans to upgrade at this time, but I've been toying with the idea of upgrading to the D300 and using the D200 for underwater work. Now if I could just convince my husband that it's a brilliant idea.... lol

Interesting move dbajurin, what are u going to do with ur Zuiko lenses ?
Well, I will use them forever.I love my 12-60mm and 50-200mm (and 11-22 also and ...). I will never give them or sell them to anybody. They earned all my future canons and canon lenses :)

It's not the weight of the camera, it's the fact that my whole travel kit will consist of two high quality lenses (11-22 and 50-200) and one body, all weather sealed, all image stabilized, with live view and an articulated LCD. Nobody else offers anything close to what Olympus has in this area. And if I want to go lighter, I can just take a couple of OM primes, which will also be image stabilized on the E-3. The 100mm f/2.8 must be the most compact, high quality lens giving 200mm of reach ever. It was the most used lens on my E-1.
What might change all this is if there's a weather sealed micro-4/3 body in the future.

This is gonna date me.
My first camera was an Agfa Billy ...
I accidentally left on a roadside wall in Wales - on the A470 at the entrance to the Fairy Falls, near Bettws-y-Coed, if you're passing and want to look for it. That's how traumatic the loss was. I was only 9 at the time, but I even remember the exact spot.
I can't remember if I had another in between - maybe I wasn't allowed one, given my forgetfulness - but the next one I can definitely remember was an early single-lens reflex, an Exa 1a
(http://www.alscotts.com/assets/exa1a1.jpg)
This had a waist-level viewfinder and the shutter and mirror combined, rather like one of those bread bins with rotating lids, so you couldn't see anything through the viewfinder until you cocked the shutter again. It also had a massive 1/30th to 1/175th range of shutter speeds ... oh, and 'Bulb'.
And trains were still being pulled by steam engines ...
-
My first camera was the Voigtlander Vito B. It was purchased in 1958 by my grandfather at the price of 29 pounds, 14 shillings and twopence and passed to me as a teenager. I still have the camera and it still works but no longer gets any regular use.
http://mattdentonphoto.com/cameras/vito_b.html (http://mattdentonphoto.com/cameras/vito_b.html)
My next camera is likely to be the new Canon EOS 5D mk II (if I get my savings back following the collapse of Landisbank/Icesave)!
Duncan.

This is gonna date me.
You ain't kidding. When you drove to take pictures was it in a horse and buggy? ;D
