100-400 for wildlife (favourite subject); 28-105 for almost everything else.

Really, what's the point?  If you shoot macros, you use a different lens then landscapes, then portraits, then lifestyle.

Right^^.  Just depends on what you are trying to shoot.  I use my 60mm macro when I am shooting bullets, and 50mm portrait when shooting portraits and 24-70 when I am not sure what I'll run into and wide angle when I am shooting landscapes.  O may use my 400mm zoom when shooting rock climbers, for example, so for me I don't tie myself to any one single lens.

Sean's right as always. Many people rave about various fast 50mm lenses, but they'd be almost no use to me. I often wish I had longer than 400mm: but probably most people posting here would have no use for a long tele.

still, it's an interesting poll on what the popular go-to lenses are.

Mine is the 70-200 f/2.8 IS.  I love the shallow DOF and the ease of isolating the subject.  I also use the 24-70 f/2.8 a lot

can't believe the 85mm f1.2 II is not on the list, that's the only lens I have, that makes it is THE most frequently used for me.

I'm about evenly split between the 24-70 and the 70-200 2.8 IS, but went with the latter as it probably has just a touch more usage.

So what do you use it for? How does it pay for it itself? It's a fantastic lens for shooting waterfowl, etc ... but for stock?

Used it a lot for Aerospace, shipping and industry, where you actually can not, for safety reasons get closer to the place. Taken many stock shots with this one.

And I need to add, for sports I use the 35-350 or the 400mm which I'd never use inside.

Neither one is on the survey.
