That's more than 10%; and the camera has not reach the stores yet!

ah yes, that's what the salesman was telling me when i was asking for comparisions of cameras yesterday. i was checking out the sony and pentax 14MP that were on sale, and he told me about the amount of not so happy customers who ordered the new canon.

a lot of people dropped their pre-orders at Henry's

and i was considering it but henry's is working on a way to compensate - but 8gb card isn't going to cut it really - but a second battery might :)

it sounds like he is saying it is still a couple weeks yet from being in the stores.

I preordered here in Norway, will be interesting to see if there is a price chance there too?!  I hope not!

Well, in september, the canadian dollar was on par with the US dolla and now it's worth around 0.85 USD. If you do the conversion, the 2800$ announced in september should be 3300$ now if you follow that rate so it's understandable they raise the price to 3100$. The market is highly volatile atm and it's hard to predict if the CAD$ will go up or down (especially since I'm not an economist).

Looks like the Norwegian Krone is following the same path as the $CDN...

So try to put aside some more money just in case!

Is it just in Canada the price went up?  If it is remaining the same in the US could you order from B&H or Adorama ?

It will be all the same with the CAD at around 0.80. The 5D will cost to us canadians 20% more when buying it in the US. But it would be a great deal for americans to buy in Canada. It's maybe the reason why Canon Canada increased the prices.

Yeah the kroner has gotten a lot weaker against the dollar, like most currencies. Very nice for microstock. The store I preordered from took payment already though so I am hoping/assuming it is not going to change

I called Canon in Australia to ask about the price and they said it would not be set until next month.

With the AUD bouncing up and down I don't blame them. They are looking for a price point so they don't have to constantly change the price.

The Sony A900 is advertised at $4400 AUD.

The list price from my dealer in Western Canada is $3049.99.  The Canadian $ closed I think around $U.S.84 on Friday, so I don't know how that looks to you.  If I told him about the Adorama deal - I don't know, they might be able to match it.

Canadians - if you purchase this item from the U.S. and live close enough to the depots, you should request to self broker and you will save quite a bit on brokerage fees.  Fedex will call you when it arrives in Canada.  You go to Fedex, pick up a form and go to the customs office and pay the tarrifs, duties, gst, pst.  You can request an estimate before you make yor purchase.  Yes, it's a hassle, but I'm just looking at my last purchase - I was too busy at the time to spend an afternoon brokering - it cost $U.S. 199 and the brokerage fees with duties and taxes were $71 CDN. (plus shipping!).  So a $3000 camera might get pretty pricey.

The thing that is curious to me with the tax situation is my understanding is that the retail price MUST include the state taxes. Therefore anything you buy from New York State should be 8% less because the vendor does not have to collect the tax if the item is going outside the state.
