Title: Anyone using the Canon T2i/550d for still photos?
Post by: pet_chia on March 06, 2010, 12:13
I haven't been able to find a detailed, hands-on review yet at the usual sites (dpreview.com, imaging-resource.com, photozone.de).  A typical question in the pre-reviews seems to be, "Can the kit lens produce decent 18 mp resolution?"  I would like to see some RAW images produced with the kit lens (EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS) and also with a decent fixed-focal lens (e.g. 50mm f/1.4 USM).

The 18 mp resolution handily fits the istock XXL size limit with some room to spare for leveling, cropping and even moderate downsizing.  If it produces images (with decent lighting and a decent lens) which are high enough quality then I don't think that any budget-conscious still stock photographer with significant sales at istock can ignore this camera (given the limitations and compromises of a "consumer" or "prosumer" body).  Not to mention the potential for stock video  :o

Me too.
I'm looking into adapters for mounting my Nikon Lenses.  The T2i may be good for video and stills.  Please do post if you find an in depth review.

Hi,

I've been shooting with the Canon 50D and the 17-85 IS f/4-5.6 usm... results were very good.
Then, Canon 5D mark II with 24-105 L f/4... results much better.
Tested the 24-105 L f/4 on the 50D... and not to my surprise, images are much sharper.... no need to sharpen in photoshop raw converter (CS4) anymore, resulting in less post processing, better images.

So to come back to your inquiry... the 550D will and can produce nice images, but in order to get the most out of it.. think prime lenses.

Patrick.

I had the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS with the 500D and thought it was a dreadful lens.  Very soft in the corners, only suitable for stock if you crop or downsize a lot.  Bought a 17-40L and the photos are much sharper.  The 50mm f1.8 is very sharp and is great value.

I submitted my first photos from my T2i to several sites.  We'll see how it goes.  I'm using a Sigma 70-300mm F4 lens right now until my Nikon lens adapter gets here.

Although, I primarily bought the camera for video and I've got about 100 clips to process this weekend.

I really love the ability to do both stills and video on the same camera, it's real handy.

I'd be very interested in what you think of it with the Nikon Lenses and adapter.  I think what you are doing is exactly the way I would like to go ... on a much smaller scale, I am sure.  :)
BTW: which adapter are you getting?
