I have my order in. The best thing to hit video in years. Can't wait. Smaller sensor but longer lenses in trade. The same size chip as the Red One more or less, that we have been using so you can still achieve that cinematic fall off with the right lenses. Can't Wait : ) Few weeks still till delivery. I will let you know what we think after we do some playing around.

Great editing too (cutting). The bokeh is fantastic. I noticed almost all were stationary takes, except a couple. Those didnt seem handheld so is there any info on what support system he used?

I saw a documentary about producers using the 5D MarkII as video camera. They fave the 5D MarkII because of the sensor made for 21mpx but only using 2 (1080P) when recording videos. The output video quality is excellent. They also use it because it's way more small and lighter than the professional video cameras.
Those Canon cameras (5D, 1D, 1DS) are in many imagery tv show lately

This video it's standard. Also I don't see why it's balck and white? BW is so old school, an movies like this are old school too.
This movie has no absolute relation with a new camera - here the 1D mark IV. It doesn't show the real pros and cons. Bokeh? Comes from the lens. Cutting and the style shows the personality of the creator.
What about the camera? I miss here a few things (options tested) that 5d mkII really hasn't:
- Dynamic range: it's the worse in movie mode. Also heavy banding appears when speeding up the movie what means 8-bit processing of the frames. But about the dynamic range... Even small lights blow out the image (check out the metro/bus scene here)
- Fast horizontal panning causes skewed image. Yes, the effect seen in soap box cameras/mobile phones is present in 5d mkII. I'm curious, this Mark IV has?
- Painfully slow focusing based on contrast and total lack of autofocus during recording. The predictive AF can be welcome here. For those who give the example of movie cameras... AF is about technology an it's time to have a good one.
- A color movie at ISO 3200, shoot in bulb light. Yes, this setting produces a lot of noise, even on 5d mkII. Note that shooting a photo at 21mpx, filtering and reducing to 2mpx (1920x1080) produces much less noise, I guess there isn't time to do this filtering and resize at the speed of 30fps... But I hope it will be available soon in cameras.

I tried some video on my 5DII but the problem is focus-tracking. The 5DII is still a hybrid, and we can expect more on video in a couple of years. The tracking seems to be solved well (in this video) by the 1DIV. Jonathan Ross put up some links to suspending equipment, which I saved, but I think you can only get the 3K$ investment for it back by News and Events, not by stock video.

Were you referring to the 5d mark 2, the 1D mark 4 has not been released except to a group of Beta testers. All the Beta testers I have spoken to say it is the real deal, far, far better than the 5d mark 2.
Look at Vincent Laforts videos. The first he shot on the 5d mark 2 and you can see the trouble he had with fast panning and keeping a clean edge to the image, jaggies everywhere and bad low end noise although still pretty darn strong on the production end.
Look at his new one for the 1D Mark 4 and you will see the difference right away. He even seemed to spend most of the movie showing off this function by doing lots of fast pans. The ISO rating is off the charts on the new 1D mark 4 compared to the 5d mark 2.
I have a friend make $150,000 last year off of a Major world wide client shooting video for them on the 5D mark 2. As with all equipment the user has a great deal to do with the results.
I do hope the results of the 1D mark 4 stand up to what I have heard from those that have worked with it or I am throwing 5k down the drain :)
I'll let you know how it looks when mine arrives in about 3 weeks.
