Just sold my 30D on eBay for good money, and a 10-20 Sigma (for $250 more than I paid - thanks exchange rates!) and hoping to buy mine on Saturday.

The shop promised me a great deal.

Just got e-mail that the 5DII ships from Adorama today - no tax no shipping cost - sweet. I did pre-order September 21st. Excited. Black spots? No black spots. The tension is killing me.

No actual delivery into my hands just yet.

I'm a Nikonist ;D And I love this 5D MarkII enough to probably have to learn the Canon cameras, sell all my Nikon stuff and never look back. Since I started photography, I was looking at the camera that I would never have to upgrade before I get very old. I think this 5D is the one. Nikon release jokers cameras with boosted Sony sensors since two years (except the D3)... :)

So add me to the waiting list in 1 or 2 months ;)

I really wanted the 5DII. Normally I wait 3-6 months to see if there are any issues ... and maybe a better price. But it's hard this ime. I still use my 20D, time to upgrade.

However, the "black dot issue" discussed at dpreview is a bit of a worry. Most users there claim it is no issue, because it is only visible at 100% and would not be visible in prints.

well, I guess that argument will not go past any microstock reviewer.

Might be "ok" (?!) if these only show up in night shots, but I am not convinced ...

Any opinions/ experiences?
Thanks

Actually there's a lot of images samples on the web and from the ones I saw there's no spots anywhere. But you are totally right on wait and see. It's probably what I will do, mostly waiting for a price drop

I did some cityscapes tonight, and I think that is a prime subject for black dot artifacts. Didn't see any. Interestingly enough I've had it sometimes on my digital rebel.

BTW. switching from 300D to 5D2 is ... pleasant ;-)

I just saw some of the black dots images and I must say, to see them you have to achieve the worst exposure from all time. None of these images would be accepted for stock with or without black dots

Same as the 5D (and many other cameras!) light streaking with windows behind properly lit subjects in dark rooms. Cameras take the photos, photographers create most of the problems. Myself included.

The problem is real, but difficult to create.  ;D

I ordered my piece from ac-foto on monday. UPS shipping tracking says it is on the way (between denmark and finland), so I might get it on time:). I was one of the first in pre-order list on my usual suplier but after waiting few weeks after release and the suplier did not get any 5d's at all I cancelled the original order and looked around and found out that AC-foto have them in stock. So the christmas holiday images and videos will be shot with 5d2 :).

thank you for the heads up! Nice to know they have it in stock but the price is a little bit high to my expectations. I guess I'll wait for a UK retailer to have it in stock with a lower  price tag.hopefully it will be mid june or early feb .

I collected mine this morning from Calmuet in Liverpool in the UK. I am waiting impatiently for the battery to charge. Why could they not use the same battery as the 5D?  :D

How much you have paid! I could have one right now for 2450,- but i think this is pretty expensive or did you pay about the same amount?
