Title: Canon extender yes or no?
Post by: dbajurin on October 17, 2008, 15:45
I am new Canon user and I have 24-70mm, 100-400mm and some wide lenses. I am planing to buy 70-200/f4 lens also. Does any of you use 1,4x or 2x extender on these lenses. As for photo I am also interested in using them for video on upcoming 5DMkII.
I use 1,4x extender on Zuiko lenses on E3 Oly and it was big degradation on the lens performance. Much more then they said in specification.
Does anybody have experience with extender on Canon lenses?
What is the best combination 70-200/f2.8/IS3 with extender or 70-200/f4/IS4 with extender in the metter of image sharpnes on the final output? I want to compare photo results to video because f2.8 or f4 can be compensate with ISO settings because noise isn't so big problem on the video. In fact, lot of professionals video cameras has ISO equivalent to 2000 ISO or more witch is so high.
Thanks.
Dario

I own and use a 1.4x on the 70-200 2.8 and 90TSE. It's pretty good. i hear the 2x is not that great.

Thanks for answers! As I see 1,4x will be good upgrade to my lenses.

Zeus, Some weird combination with 90TSE! Do you have any picture online somewhere to see that combination. I have 45TSE and it will be fun to experiment with it.
