The canon G12 has just been announced by accident and Cnet posted the info, which they later retracted but Canon Rumors managed to get a screen shot.

So the details

10 MP sensor
5x zoom
2.8" tilt and swivel screen
manual exposure as usual
HD quality video
multi aspect ratio image capture
image stabilization
HDR mode

The Canon S95

was recently announced too which looks pretty similar in terms of specs but doesn't so many manual controls and is a little lighter and smaller

Hopefully they kept the RAW mode and hopefully yhr e prices will start falling on the G11's. I wish Nikon would come out with a Rangefinder style camera. Looking at a LCD just does not make me feel likeI am serious photographer.

I'll buy one if they put an APS-C size sensor in it.

Yawn. Nothing innovative.

I'm a Canon shooter but just picked up a Panasonic GF1 and it's pretty impressive. Both Nikon and Canon missed the boat on this segment.

Sigma have done it with a foveon sensor.  The zoom lens might have a smaller range, as it would be much bigger but they don't even have to go to the APS-C size to improve IQ, just make it a lot bigger than it is at the moment.  When I look at the size of the old minox cameras that used full frame film, they must be able to improve digital compacts.
