Title: Flaw in my T2i (550D)
Post by: WarrenPrice on January 05, 2012, 11:18
I've loved my T2i ever since its purchase and (other than my settling for the kit lenses) have found very little to complain about.  Yesterday, I bought a use 420EX speed light with the assurance that it could be triggered off camera with the built in flash.  It can NOT.
The T2i built in flash does NOT offer Command Mode.  Bummer... my Nikon D80 does.   :o

Old (or new now) Vivitar flashes will work off camera and can be pretty cheap.

I had taken my 2 (very old) Vivitar 283 in to Precision Camera for repair when I saw the used 420EX.   Repairs for Vivitar was too much--  may have to buy another one ... or just wait until the coffer contains enough to invest in Alien Bees.   ;D

If you are patient, you can buy used Vivitar 285 flash units on eBay for less than $50 USD shipping included.
