I soooooo want one, but it would need to come with its own porter. (The person, not the beer.)

£11,995 in the UK. Didn't realise the exchange rate is now 1:1. Rip off Britain.  Should be about £7900.

I can't afford either price anyway  :-[

The Mega Millions is up there and the  Power Ball is supposed to be above 600 million Saturday!

And I agree, only if I win the lottery would I get one of these.

f4 is not good for that price.

For bird photographers... I suggest you buy a 30$ ghillie suit instead.
And I mean it.

Except you'd have the police after you all the time thinking you were poaching.

But they wont find you if you are in a ghillie suit, and you can lie there and photograph them while thy search the forest floor around you.
A good photo oppertunity.

Why don't they call it a 280-560mm f/5.6? You can't shoot it at 200mm or f4.

You can. It's a 200-400 f/4. And you can use it as such. Or you can switch in the 1.4 converter, making it into a 280-560mm f/5.6.

And it is amazingly sharp and has an awesome IS.

Really tempting...

The thing that impresses me the most is the $700 case.

i wonder, is wildlife photography so lucrative ? i know nothing about it but if the lenses are so expensive the photos will have to be priced accordingly ?

For me it's not profitable, it's an (expensive) hobby

Same for sports, (especially motorsports) a very small number of people and agencies make a good profit, the rest are doing what they enjoy. And shooting what they enjoy shooting. After the major sports, all the rest are low demand. Supply far exceeds demand.

Why do people have flower gardens? You can't eat them? Yet there are florists, but the majority of people, just grow them, and spend all kinds of time and money, because the enjoy doing it.
