Hi Guys.
What do you think about the new canon 70D?
Here is the link:

It looks VERY interesting to me! I was wondering how long it would take someone to bring up the new model here...

The jury is still out on this but it doesn't look good. I want t see more of a report on what the frame is made of. Is it like the 60D that went the path of the Rebel line which is plastic. If that is the case then I'm not interested in a plastic body/frame camera. I didn't jump at the 6D either as it has a plastic top ( so the GPS could work), I personally want a camera that is capable of being used outside, in the elements a well as in the studio.
One of the reviews I saw compared it to a Nikon and both were reported to have less than the "PRO" series bodies/frames. While I like the technical upgrades, I'll end up getting a 7D or a 7D MK II when it comes out (provided it has a good frame).
Have a great weekend all and enjoy.

It's funny how different people have different needs. I absolutely BABY my gear, so being rugged/weather-sealed isn't a big deal for me. I'm mostly looking for the most features per dollar.

my Rebel turns 7 years this year - and shows signs of wear and tear, but still works. I am not too much worried about the casing. I had thought about upgrading to the 60D - now with the 70D coming out I wonder whether I should wait for the 70D to be released (which will cost me more money and makes a PS or LR upgrade necessary).

I understand your point completely, but I shoot high school sports, football, basketball, soccer, etc. Last year alone I ended up with a lens and a speed light in the shop for repair due to me not being fast enough to get out of the way of a play or a basketball, plus with football and soccer in the fall I'm out in all kinds of weather. If I just had an indoor studio I'm sure I could look for something that wasn't as rugged or sealed.
Mellimage, I'm already seeing the prices on the 60D dropping down to $600, you could almost get 2 for 1 at that price. I oped for the 50D when the 60D came out, and I got the body/frame that I wanted and it cost quite a bit less.
Just my two cents,
Headed out into the Cascade mountains on a hike tomorrow to shoot some waterfalls! You all have a great rest of the weekend.

Maybe you need to hire a goalie to deflect the incoming projectiles! ;D
Have fun in the mountains. I need to get outdoors for something other than flood cleanup myself.

I see that too - plus the 60D is available now when I have most of my shoots for stock and vacation planned, while the 70D won't be available till later the year.
Secondly - buying the 60D won't require met to upgrade my existing versions of LR and PS - the 70D probably would (at least if I wanna keep using Camera Raw).
So there are a lot of points going for the 60D, but the 70D is a major improvement to it... .

the best improvement, autofocus for video, certainly

I think you might be making a bad call on that. The original "Rebel" had a Kevlar body that was more resilient than the magnesium alloy of a 5D. I know, because I've dropped them both. The 300D bounced out of a speeding golf cart on to concrete and bounced; the 5D was knocked off a table onto tiles and has a cracked and dented casing. Both of them still work. I would rather have a Kevlar body than a metal one - it's lighter and tougher.

I believe you can update Camera RAW regardless of the LR or PS version

I know that I've upgraded Camera Raw in the past without upgrading PS itself. I'm not sure if that is something that you can still do, but it may be.

Well, for what I do I'd love to see a Kevlar and Magnesium body! Bullet proof and sturdy, In any case there is give an take in everything we use anymore. Thanks for the additional info on the original Rebel, the worse mine has had is going airborne out of the back of my goldwing (motorcycle) trunk, that was my 40D and while it had some internal issues, the exterior was just fine.
Have a great weekend, just got back myself, time to kick back and have a root beer and think about doing some post processing!

:( I just picked up a 7D canon, Should I have waited for the 70D or am I not missing too much?

I'd take a 7D over a 70D any day. They are a completely different class of camera, and the good old 7D still beats out pretty much anything else in the APS-C market.

Canon is really amazing and can provide quality shots. I really enjoyed it.
