Easy upload site, occasional sales, good staff. Might as well hang around and see what happens.

I never joined them originally as I heard so much negative stuff about them, but when they introduced the fotosearch venture I decided to give them a try. I only loaded 700 images.   To my surprise they have done fairly well.....I almost reach payout every month and regularly get large fotosearch sales.  A few days ago i got 4  $19.80 sales on fotosearch in one day.  I plan to load the rest of my portfolio up as I get time.

Well, the upload process is really nice.  I enjoy how they have the "series" editor.  The portfolio view both old and new are great.  I hadn't seen any sales there with my first batch, so I didn't upload for a few months, then I sent a second batch and have had 4 sales.  I think I'm going to try to upload more consistantly there.

One thing for sure is, they are sure beating my sales a BigStock, which RARELY come!

For me too. In fact, if I take into account the length of time I've been selling there, 123rf too.

I have not signed up with them for two reasons: I have been told they are insistant on property releases even when all identifying information is cloned out. That kills my Real Estate sales.

Model releases required even if the person is a little black spot in the distance and his Mother could not identify him. Kills my Golf shots.

Without the above being corrected, I'm just not interested.

Am I wrong???? ???

I am interested but nobody answered my questions posted earlier.
If you are the one to answer them I may sign up and name you as a referral and you can earn some money off of me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Larry~

I disagree with the above poster.  I believe you are mistaken.  I have uploaded 3 or 4 luxury homes there and HAVE NOT had to have a property release.  These are single family homes, taken from a golf course.

My canstock link below somehow doesn't show all my images. I've provided this direct link so you can see the photos I'm speaking of:

PS: I would LOVE for you to sign up and get referal $$ ;D I need all the help I can get! :-)  Please just click on my "see my portfolio at Canstock" link in my signature ~ THANKS!

I guess I don't have much luck with Duncan's CanStockPhoto, so far is the worst site I contribute too, even behind CC and FP by a long run, in making me some money, I don't have a large portfolio with them though, only about 275 images, but I don't think I'll be uploading there anymore until I see some changes in $$$.  :-\

No, I believe that you are mistaken. You photographed private property from private property and did not have a release, yet on the user agreement for Canstock, you agreed that you did have all releases on file, even if not submitted with the uploaded images. Here it is in part below copied from their site. I am not an attorney but It looks to me if they get taken to court for using an image withour a release, they will blame YOU, as you agreed when you signed up that you would have the releases.

I decided against using Can Stock for the reason below, copied from their user agreement.

b. By uploading his or her Data File, the Supplier warrants that he or she owns all proprietary rights, including copyright, in and to the Data File.  To the extent that the Data File contains images of recognizable people or persons, the Supplier also represents and warrants that he or she has obtained a complete and accurate model release in substantially the same form as attached hereto as Schedule B.  To the extent that the Data File contains images of identifiable property or property for which it is necessary for the owner to permit the uses allowed under the End User License Agreement, the Supplier also represents and warrants that he or she has obtained a complete and accurate property release in substantially the same form as attached hereto as Schedule C.  Supplier is responsible for keeping all original releases and maintaining accurate release records, and shall submit such releases to Company upon request.

It means I HAVE ON FILE a full release for ALL persons and PROPERTY in every image uploaded and I do Not!

For this reason I will not upload any images to Canstock as most of my images are sports with people, houses, etc.

I suggest that everybody read the user agreements on any site before they upload to them, as you may be sorry!

-Larry

My CanStockPhoto experience is very strange.  It was dormant for a very long time, then starting around May or June I got a run of $19.80 sales, about 6 or 7 in a month, sprinkled in with a bunch of $.30 or $1.00 sales.  Now the activity has all but dried up again... quiet for the past several weeks with just the occasional tiny sale.  I wonder if they had invested in some advertising around June or so that boosted our downloads in early summer.  Anyone else notice the same thing, only to see their CanStockPhoto sales dry up lately?

I just nailed my first Fotosearch sale this weekend. I have to say, given the super easy upload, its worth keeping around.

Started uploading in May.
Now in August have 457 photos online and three 30 subscription sales this month.
Not very impressive, but hope to get some of the higher sales soon. :-\

Very slow, but with Fotosearch regular sales still better than BigStock for me.

I have 1-2 month only a hand full of sales and then comes a month with more sale plus sales from Fotosearch. Next month is then back to 2-3 sales. So it is an up and down. The upload via FTP is fast and easy.

I had my first CanstockPhoto downloads today, 3 $0.75 sales. Prior to this, I've had 6 Fotosearch subscription sales. Would be nice to get one of the Fotosearch regular sales though at $19.80.

Canstock is quite dead for me. The easy uploading and occasional Fotosearch sales keep me uploading.

I have a nice little story about Canstock.  I posted here that I couldn't get ftp to work and that the Activex uploader does'nt work either.  Java worked, so that night I started sending folders over.

The next morning Dillon called from Canstock offering to help with my ftp problem.

A few days later I received an e-mail essentially stating there is indeed a bug with Activex .

I've always heard talk that Duncan from Canstock is such a great guy.  Words can't express how impressed I was that Dillon followed a public forum post and called to offer assistance.  In the past when I've had problems with one of the various micro-agencies  1.  Site won't return e-mails 2. Site doesn't understand my problem 3.  Site does not agree with my problem 4. Site says "it's You not Us" or tell me to use Firefox instead.

So thanks Dillon!

Reminds me I better complete those files that I uploaded.

Very nice story Pixart!  You are so right about that level of service being almost unheard of.  When they were bought out by Fotosearch I had wondered if the personal service from CanStockPhoto would be over, but clearly it isn't.

Sales there picked up after the Fotosearch buyout.  They still are nowhere nearing big 6 status but at least I am getting a payout most every month now.

A few nights ago I had my first $29.18 sale at Canstock.  Quite a nice surprise.  I've had a bunch of $19.80 sales, but the higher amount surprised me.  Will have to look into what it was.  My sales summary page calls it a  "Fotosearch Regular - XLarge" but that's also what my $19.80 sales say.  The image with the larger sale has had 5 downloads to date... maybe Canstock has a sliding scale like DT, where the more downloads an image gets, the higher its price rises?  I'll look it up and write back with what I find.

Well I've decided that its worth spending a bit of time uploading my portfolio to a few of the other sites out there, so at the moment am doing this for Canstock again, after bailing quite a while ago. Lets see if they've fixed up the property release issues for ancient buildings etc...
