Title: Is the revenue pool growing as promised? How much is it now?
Post by: Justanotherphotographer on June 15, 2022, 07:41
Canva was very good at keeping us informed and even put there money where their mouth is when their subs package started, doubling or income for six months. I am hoping this continues and we can get a report on how the large the royalty pool is now. The email back in 2020 said:

“The current royalty pool is $9.5 million USD on an annualised basis and importantly, it will continue to grow proportionally as Canva’s subscription revenue grows.”

I know their revenue doubled by 2021 but I also noticed my rate of increase in income has been really slowing the last couple of months.

Danny, or another rep, are you out there?

I'm doing great with Canva, very staisfied with earnings, but I wonder is this bad news for them?

Canva's become my 2nd best agency, often close to SS.  income is 2-3x from before subs and has been slowly increasing.

in addition to the royalty pool, we'd need to know the# of images available, and if our increase in portfolio size has kept up

Agree, but that's more a "my problem" kinda thing as I am the one who needs to compete on number of uploads and quality. I just want to know they are holding up their end of the bargain as stated by them. I mean ideally they should also tell us RPD but we know they took that info away after the outcry.

I PM'd the Canva rep Danny to see if they will reply on this thread. I think a keeping a dialogue open and being informed is important as Canva continues to get bigger and we don’t have a lot of transparency as far as what's selling or for how much.

Hello! Our royalty pool continues to grow proportionally as Canva's subscription revenue grows. We recognise content and contributors as an critical part of Canva's value proposition and success, and our content business model relies on using content to (1) attract more users and paying subscribers, which gives us more money to (2) pay more royalties to contributors, which in turn attracts more users and paying subscribers.

I'd share a detailed graph of our royalty pool if possible, but that can be reverse engineered into exact numbers around our revenue growth and financials; which isn't something we can share as a private company in a highly competitive industry. I can share the following that the May 2022 royalty pool is between +60% to +70% higher than May 2021.

Your individual earnings depend both on the size of the royalty pool, and how many usages your content gets relative to all premium content within our library.

Thanks Danny, that’s good to know, I appreciate the additional information.

Even though I would like more transparency as far as what I am actually selling and how much I am making per download it’s very nice to have a representative actually engaging with the community despite their success. Many of the other players stopped doing this as they grew. They could learn a lot from Canva or Adobe.
