It is an absolute nightmare. They were so promising as an actually innovative new idea. Then they got into bed with Getty and sales are absolutely going through the floor. Really depressed about this one.

It really is sad.  Just a year ago, I made $450 there.  This month, looks to be around $40.  Such a good idea too.

is it dilution or something else? my sales, tanked too you know,

Both I think, they dont really need submitters any more, they now have access to the Chinese arm of Getty and have purchased 2 "free image" stock sites .... (that I know of)
They used Stock image makers to get their design platform going and now no longer need us. I dont expect anything great from them now. Their focus is on the design platform and they change the rules for submitters without ever letting us know anything about it!

My sales dropped very dramatically as well. Canva went from hero to zero very quickly, it had became my top site by earning, but I knew it was not solid because the majority of my sales came from just a handful of pictures.
At the beginning of the year and until beginning of May, I was averaging at least 50 downloads per day, in June it was less than 5 per day.
From my stats, I noticed the drop started on May 3.

So I decided to contact Canva support and I got this reply:

"Thank you for reaching out to us.

Yes, we're aware of the decline in contributor sales and it's something we're looking to improve.

The decline will be as a result of the Getty partnership as well as a free images experiment that we ran (now finished). Both of these are efforts to keep users happy (content to fulfill all search queries and free images, respectively) however we've become aware that there is a major downside which is a decline in contributor sales.

We value the ongoing contribution our generous contributors make to Canva, and so as I said we really want to remedy this asap."

What planet do you live on that it didn't occur to them the Getty partnership and offering collections of free images would impact the sales of those who uploaded to Canva?

Really??

I'd take any soothing words about how they want to improve things with a truck load of salt. They're either not serious or so inept as to be incapable of implementing any remedy.

It's such a shame that a company with an honestly innovative approach - as opposed to all the Shutterstock wannabes with no marketing plans - turned out to be such a waste of space from a contributor point of view.

I have single uses mainly $1, some 90c and a few $1.40 - for which I got paid 35c each. Then I have (had!!!) multi use ones $10, I got $3.50. Nothing else....

If I were you, I would write to them and ask. They do at least have a fairly responsive support team....

I wrote to them. Apparently these numbers relate to local currencies, equivalent to the $1 so we still get 35c. For info.

At least the fact that they withhold Aussie taxes is irrelevant now considering there is virtually no income for contributors now. Their contributor relations are abysmal. Every time I have contacted them promises were made and never followed through on.

I've requested to delete my port.

You can close your accounts, but you cannot delete your images and they will sell after you are gone.

Yeah, no doubt they'll appear on Pixaturd and Turdsplash

Yep, looks like Canva has completely screwed us.

Agree 100%. Honestly gutted to see them turn into just another Getty partner/ distributor when there was actually some innovation there and an opportunity to disrupt the market.

Annoying but not unexpected.  Unless contributors own a majority share in one of these sites, this will keep happening.

Since Canva started, I just can't get any real info about how it works without signing into the site.
Now I find my iS pics are there and I still can't get info.
They sell individual images for $10 or unlimited images for $12.95 per month? (is that right?)
Any clues? Thanks.

Two months have gone by and no sign of any improvement.  "We want to remedy this ASAP" appears to be yet another pack of lies to what they consider to be gullible stock photographers...

Canva had become my number 2 agency for a short time before the getty partnership, then it tanked completely. I joined mainly on Lee's reputation and was happy with it for a long time. I even started getting a few of the high commission sales at 35 bucks!

But then it dropped, and dropped again and I finally pulled my port a few months ago. Part of the reply I got was this:

Note that in line with our Contributor Agreement, users whove added your images to their designs remain able to purchase new licenses even after this date. However, your images are no longer offered for sale and cannot be added to any new user designs from this point forward. You will continue to earn royalties and receive royalty payments as normal for those sales.

Plus an invitation to rejoin should I choose.

I don't sell on Canva, and from having read a bunch of posts on this website over a number of months, I'd get the impression that Canva is of the devil. The curious part is that I've heard the founder of Canva on a bunch of popular entrepreneur type podcasts on number of times over the last few years, including pretty recently. The impression I get from the podcasts are that Canva is seemingly a pretty well run business. For a private company they have already achieve unicorn status, ie worth over a billion dollars. https://mashable.com/2018/01/09/canva-unicorn-status/. Clearly all your sales have dropped on that platform because they no longer value your work and no longer need it. They have other suppliers now.

and Canva are now in the business of giving images away for free, lets hope she's not that good and this is one venture she fails in.

I've heard good things about the founder, but these types, these "disruptors" often don't understand that they are ruining the businesses of others who came before them. They are piggybacking on that hard work and claiming some moral high ground with this term "disruptor". They seem to have a really great employee situation, but that's as far as it goes. In the end, they're in it for the money, until either someone else comes along and "disrupts" them, and I can't say I'll be sorry for them, or, more likely, she'll sell the business for a small fortune to someone even worse.
