5K display, seems perfect tool for image and video editing. http://www.apple.com/imac-with-retina/ (http://www.apple.com/imac-with-retina/)

I don't know.. then you have a monitor which has like 7x more pixels than the consumers who will be looking at your photos (if we assume they use 1920*1080), and when editing I like to see what the "average Joe" would see.
Also, on a monitor this sharp, pictures which are wide 900px (for example) are minuscule.
Maybe I need to see one in action, but I doubt I'll change my mind until the masses shift to 4K/5K.

Also, no need to go full-on Apple mode, there's 5k displays for the PC as well: check Dell's UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K

You make a very important point. I have a 4K monitor and everything looks great. The only problem is that now all photos look like absolute crap on all other monitors and devices in comparison. Being able to see what the average Joe sees is very important esp if you're doing work for clients.

I'm waiting for OLEDs. Resolution is great, but I think when OLEDs come on line it will provide another level of depth and off axis performance well beyond LCDs.

Wont the "average Joe" be using a 4k monitor soon? They might not need it but that wont stop the sales people convincing them that they do.

I think not for at least 3 more years.

people are buying a lot of high quality 4k Tvs. Now they can buy a computer with 5k for not much more. I think as a home entertainment and computer system this is a great alternative.
Wouldnīt mind a 32 inch screen, but I think itīs a great offer and Iīll certainly get one as soon as my budget letīs me.

read some reviews on the new iMac and the concesus seems to be to wait... no problem waiting on this one at least that what the bank account says.

What is happening in the home entertainment space is almost exactly opposite of what is happening in computing. The average Joe wants a bigger, more theater-like, experience in their living room, but is using his desktop less and less as everything happens on his cell in this day and age.
Sometimes it's hard for us to keep up with what real people (as opposed to us micro-stock crazies ;D) are concerned with. I often want to choke people that look at crappy photos on Facebook, Instagram, etc. and ooh and aah over them when all I can see is motion blur, camera shake, noise, etc.
