I am looking at the Dell IPS screens, specifical;ly the U2711 27" IPS model that I have found for 400.

I have the 23" version and I like it a lot.

DEC doesn't make monitors anyways. They just put their brand plate on Samsung (or other) monitors. The equivalent Samsung 27" LPS has a wider viewing angle for almost half the price. That's why it's probably "flee market" stuff.

Okay didn't want to start a new thread for a very similar topic.
I would like to upgrade to a 27" 2560x1440 res monitor but every customer review I read seems to say that they all have the annoying anti-glare coating that makes image editing a nightmare on them.
Anyone have a suggestion for one that doesn't suffer from this problem?

My partner is amazed with the quality of the U2711 he spends many hours a day editing with this screen. I doubt you will find a better bang-for-the-buck.

Thanks for that, I would really love to see one in action but can't find a high street retailer that stocks them.
I'm wondering if all the complaints about the Dell's AG coating are overblown and I can live with it or not!
I'm almost sold on the U2711, dell also have a 20% off promotion that means I can get it for less than 600

There's good reviews and prices for it on Amazon __ and if you don't like it you can always return it.

You won't regret it !
Also do note that you must connect it via dual link DVI or DP in order to use it's full resolution.

Are Tiff's better than Jpegs. You bet! Can you tell the difference when printed. Not really.

Similarly, is an Eizo better than a Dell Ultrasharp. Of course! Is it worth paying 3 to 4 times the price? Nope. You will be amazed at the quality these days.

Good luck with your choice - lets us know how it goes. I'm thinking of updating myself.

I think the best site with monitor reviews is www.prad.de.
The reviews are very detailed and technical.
There is an English version of the site, but it seems that the German language version has somewhat more content.

Ever since I switched from film to digital [1998] all I've ever had were Lacies and Eizos. I switched to Mac last year with the 27 IMAC. Got to tell ya. I saw things I totally Missed and didn't see until then especially in the blacks. very, Very happy.

Just to feedback, got the monitor yesterday. When I first turned it on the "sparkly" effect of the AG coating was really apparent to me, much stronger than on my previous Samsung, it took me maybe an hour to adjust to it now I don't notice it anymore.
Monitor so far seems excellent as far as color accuracy and vibrancy goes, the increased size and resolution is already speeding up my workflow.
So thanks to all that recommended it!

I'm really chuffed with my Dell 27" too, even if I am just using it in factory preset mode.
