I can't decide what monitor to get. I've read a lot of good reviews about the Dell 24in U2410 as well as the Dell 23in U2311. Both are ISP monitors and the u2410 is about $200.00 more than the U2311 and the U2311 is fairly new so don't know rather to trust the good reviews it's getting.

Any one have any experience with either of these or have other suggestions?

(edit) that's suppose to be U2410 not U2420 so I changed it. ;)

Seems like a winner for photo editing.

HI Donding-
I've been using dell monitors for years. Great quality and warranty. I use them for my regular business as a still life photographer with some pretty demanding clients. Never a problem with translating the look on my monitor to the prepress house.
I was told ( by someone who seems to know about this stuff) that the dell monitors are the same actual monitor as the apple monitors. Except the dell  monitors are 3 year warranty, with more ports and speakers.
As for which one, I've got 4 of them now, and i can't see much difference between the bare bones monitor and the high end monitor. ( except for the extra ports, and a slightly bigger size.
One thing I can say is look for sales- dell routinely has sales where they knock 25% off the price.
 I hope this helps

Do you know any one who has the U2410 or the new U2311? The 2410 is on sale from $599.00 to $539.00, but the 2311 is sitting at $319.00. There are a few coupon places I went through trying to get it 20% off, but it always says error, even on the Dell site. I've got my new computer coming next week and I need a monitor as well. :-\

Mainly what draws me to the 2410 is that it can be set to Adobe RGB. The 2311 only has the sRGB. I don't really know rather that would make a big difference or not.
And of course the $319 price draws me to the 2311...lol

I don't know anyone with these monitors, they are too new. In looking at the website, it seems that the 2311 has a wide viewing angle, which is a good thing. I have always been very careful to sit in the same position when judging color and exposure, because it does change a bit on the monitors that I've had ( flat panel anyway) depending on your point of view. This comes in most importantly when there is a client looking over your shoulder. In microstock you don't have that problem ( which is one of my favorite things about microstock).
I couldn't find the u2410f on the website- maybe its being replaced- in which case you may be able to get a great price on a closeout. I try to buy cameras and equipment when they are being replaced by something new, and last years "greatest thing ever" is this years "old hat".
I guess for me the bottom line is that you can't go wrong with either one, and they will take returns if you're not happy. They also guarantee no dead pixels ( unlike apple, which just says " ha ha too bad). ( apple is the new microsoft, with all it's evil and arrogance).

Here's the Dell U2410

I still think I'm leaning more towards the U2410 since it is a 1920x1200 16:10 ratio rather than the U2311 that is a 1920x1080 with 16:9 ratio. I've also been looking at a HP monitor that compares with the U2410. I just wish there was somewhere I could go to view them side by side rather than rely on the internet.

Okay, I took a look, and it does look like a great monitor. I think what you are paying for is the extra connections and software enhancements. You would have to judge if you use them. My experience has been that the extra ports come in handy in a studio, but for image processing you mainly set up a workflow, and stay with it. In real life the difference between the resolution won't be that big a deal. The most valuable addition to photo editing in my opinion is to learn the keyboard shortcuts so you don't have to go to the menus and toolbars, and just have the image full screen.
I don't have anything good to say about HP, except for the low end printers- repeat- nothing. ( just my opinion based on some bad equipment years ago. When I get burned, you don't get a second chance.)
You can;t go wrong getting the best.

Thanks for the advice. I've never owned a HP. I did own a Dell many many years ago. It was a good computer and monitor. I guess I ought to stick with what I know. Your probably right about the extra resolution. I think I will get the U2311. I don't have a 24 inch monitor or 23 inch for that  matter so I probably wouldn't notice the difference between the two and the U2311 is $200 cheaper. Thanks again. ;)

That's true, but I'm not sure Dell qualifies as "the best". It's good, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy one myself from what I've read, but it isn't the best to be sure.

I have an HP LP2065 and an LP2475w, and they are both good. The 2475w is my main editing monitor, and I love it. I am not a fan of most things HP, but based on these two monitors, they do do an excellent job with monitors.

@ KB-
I'll take you're experience with Hp as a sign that maybe they've learned to clean up thier act. i had a really bad experience with one of their computers, and it put me off of HP. Dell went through a bad customer service period as well, and the only reason I don't have anything bad to say is that I've never gotten burned by them as I have with HP. To go back to my original post, it's my understanding that all of these displays come from one or two factories in Korea. That's just what I've been told. I switched to Dell from Apple, which sells overpriced monitors with a 1 year warranty and too bad about that dead pixel. Dell is 3 years and will replace a dead pixel monitor. So at this point I'm a dell fan. Next week, who knows?
Anyway, that's what makes horse races, and my opinion isn't any more informed than my own limited experience. Cheers!

I went back to order the Dell U2311 and it's not even shown on their website any more and after reading the computer forums people who had ordered them are still waiting and keep getting put off and put off. I guess they are having a real supply and demand issue.  I didn't want to give $539.00 for the Dell U2410, even though I would have loved to, but I didn't....so I ordered the HP ZR24W for $399.00. Wish me luck with HP....Hopefully it will be a good experience.

Donding-
I'm sure you will have a good result from the hp monitor, based on KB's positive feedback about their monitors. ( and my still held belief that they are all the same under the hood).
Let us know what you think when you get it. Good Luck!

No, please don't!  :) My understanding is their business monitor division (which sells the LPxxxx line) is pretty well liked with good customer support. I definitely do not get that impression of their computer division. I avoid HP computers, based on what I've read, and the little I've experienced (I've had only one).

I hope so, too, Donna. But what the heck is ZR24W? I've never heard of it. Is it IPS based? Oh, it is. Wow, $400 for a 24" IPS based monitor? That's an incredible steal if it's as good as it sounds. My LP2475W cost 50% more at the time (about a year ago), and I thought that was a good price. Please update this thread once you get it and use it a while. I hope you love it!
