Title: Monitor Calibration hardware

Need help in buying a monitor calibrator. There are a lot out there even by the same manufactures.
What kind do you use?
I was looking at the Spider 3 as well as the i1 system, but don't know if there are better ones out there that don't break the bank.
Which would you recommend?

X-rites, Colormunki-Photo,  expensive!  but well worth it. Its the only one which can calibrate the new iMac monitors and for the Eizo monitors its even far better then Eizos own calibrators.

Whichever is smallest, as my Spyder2 has sat in my closet taking up space since a week after I bought it a few years ago.

Here's a quick online source for some color checking on lcd monitors. http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ (http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/) The colors will change no matter what you do dependent on the surrounding lighting. If your monitor is really off it's time to get a new monitor. Getting your monitor to match your printout is another story.

I use the Eye 1 hardware, but I read once that it was more important to have a very capable calibration software, particularly one able to handle accurate setting of the monitor luminance. Most LCD monitors are far too bright and if you are going to make prints of your best images, they tend to come out to dark if you don't adjust the luminance properly. I use the Color Eyes Display Pro. It also allows you to calibrate two monitors separately and load their profiles on start-up. Been very happy with the software and I do recalibrate every couple of months or so.

I use the Spyder and it does everything it's supposed to - It's the only one I've ever used, so I have no point of comparison.

Sean - if you know of something smaller that you'd recommend, I'd be interested to know what that is, as it might make me reconsider.

Using my  Spyder3 every week on 3 separate monitors that I have.  Best thing I've found.
